JOB TITLE: MACHINIST II
DEPARTMENT: CNC
REPORTS TO: CNC SUPERVISOR
CLASSIFICATION: NON-EXEMPT
JOB SUMMARY
Under indirect supervision, operate CNC and other conventional machinery to support production operations.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate CNC live tooling lathes, and vertical mills 3 and 5 axis mills, including other conventional machinery
- Review blueprints and drawings
- Work with complex, tight tolerance components and various materials
- Load, run and/or setup machines using preprogrammed data
- Work independently to program new skill level-appropriate components using Solidworks HSM
- Seek out guidance from senior level machinists if needed
- Monitor and control feeds and speeds to find best surface finish, tool life and runtime ratio
- Strive for accurate and visually acceptable components, as well as first article success
- Inspect parts to verify dimensions before and during production
- Continuously provide feedback for process improvement
- Maintain clean and organized working environment
- Support LEAN initiatives
- Perform other duties as necessary and/or required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- High School diploma and 2-5 years working knowledge of shop machinery such as milling machine, lathes, saws and various hand-held tools.
- Must have proficient desktop computer skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with complex machinery
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with CNC programming and operation
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to stand at a workstation for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs at times
- Ability to traverse manufacturing facility
