Summary The Mail Clerk performs duties in the Central Mail Room of the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System or Lee County Healthcare Center (LCHCC), which involves analyzing, sorting, delivery, and pick-up of mail to over 200 delivery points within the Medical Center, and the LCHCC. Responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to: Sort all incoming, inter-office, and outgoing mail - including telecommunications, medical records, official, patient personal, complaint, and congressional mail. Read and analyzes incoming mail for proper routing to over 200 delivery points and processes specialized subject matter. Pick up outgoing and interoffice mail and reviews for completeness of address and conformance to applicable instructions, regulations, and directives. Processes all outgoing mail for accountability and metering weight and postage. Record all controlled mail (express, registered, certified, and UPS parcels). Sort incoming and outgoing mail into categories, maintains personnel and patient directories for specific locations. Use mail carts and cargo van as necessary for mail delivery throughout the Medical facility. Analyze, sort, deliver, pick-up of mail, and labeling materials in preparation for shipment. Assist in the reproduction and assembly of authorized materials and publications. Work Schedule: M - F, 8:00am - 4:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/05/2024. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General experience: Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: pick up and sort incoming, inter-office and outgoing email; time stamp designated mail items; record controlled mail, sack, face, bundle, wrap and label materials in preparation for shipment; assist in reproduction and assembly of authorized materials and publications. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have two (2) years above high school. OR, Combination of Experience & Education: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Physical Requirements: Long periods of standing and walking. Pushing and pulling of carts when delivering materials. Moderate to heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects of weighing over 70 pounds. Recurring lifting and carrying of heavy items up to 70 pounds. Pushing and pulling postal hampers from the post office sometimes weighing over 200 pounds.
