The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is currently accepting applications/resumes for a Maintenance Assistant - P/TThis is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic urban, growing organization just 5 miles west of New York City in the water front city of Perth Amboy. The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has served the ever-evolving needs of our community since 1912. We enthusiastically serve over 6,000 members in the Raritan Bay area in our community building initiatives through Healthy Living, Youth Development and Social Responsibility.Under the direction of the Facilities Director, the Maintenance Assistant performs a broad range of carpentry duties to ensure the maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness of the YMCA facility, properties and grounds. The Maintenance Assistant must exhibit sound judgment, have great interpersonal skills, and the ability to function well in a fast-paced environment. The Maintenance Assistant demonstrates cause driven leadership through the following YMCA Leadership Competencies- Mission Advancement; Collaboration; Operational Effectiveness and Personal Growth. The Maintenance Assistant engages in and promotes the YMCA mission through the core values: Honesty, Caring, Responsibility, Respect and Faith . ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Performs general handy man duties including:• Perform general maintenance repairs in residential and commercial properties.• Handle various task such as carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, landscaping etc.• Conduct routine inspections to identify issues and recommend repairs.• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, code enforcement and company policies.Perform various maintenance tasks including:• Perform general building maintenance• Handle various floor care work such as mopping, carpet shampooing, stripping and waxing floors. • Following procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent personal injury or damage to property and fixtures. • Empties waste containers.• Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies. • Replace light bulbs and clean light fixturesPerform grounds keeping duties, including:• Sidewalk/exterior (driveways & parking areas) clean up.• Trash disposal. • Snow removal during inclement weather and emergencies using snow blowers, and snow shovels, and spread snow melting chemicals. • Clear debris from grounds. Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs, building and stock problems. Requisition (to supervisor) supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties. Drive vehicles required to perform or travel to cleaning work. Perform other tasks as assigned.This is a part-time, nonexempt position. RequirementsA. Experience:
  • Previous experience in maintenance, cleaning and custodial positions. Experience working in a non-profit or youth serving organization preferred.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, shovel snow, and operate and maintain snow removal equipment.
B. Education/Certification
  • High school Diploma
C. Skills:
  • Some knowledge of plumbing, and should be able to fix minor plumbing works that may arise in the organization.
  • Ability to use equipment and chemicals in prescribed manner, including ability to read labels, MSDS information sheets, and instructions.
  • Ability to stay alert to potential safety and security problems.
  • Ability to carry out instructions independently.
  • Ability to get along with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Skills in planning, organizing, systematizing, implementing are essential.
  • Must have proven skills in problem solving, decision-making and time management skills.
D. Interpersonal Skills:
  • Familiar with the culture and mission of the organization
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills required.
  • Friendly and polite. Ability to negotiate and manage interactions with employees, coworkers, department heads, vendors as needed

Salary Description $20-$22/hour
