Our employees at CHAIL will tell you that they love working for the agency because they love what the agency does! About the position:The Maintenance Associate's duties change from day to day. Certain tasks such as mowing and landscaping are necessary on an ongoing basis. Other tasks come in as requests from program staff, which may include plumbing, electrical work, or work on the physical structure of facilities. Maintenance staff also engage in major building and remodeling tasks from time to time. These projects will be labor intensive and require a variety of skills. In addition, programs at times may move to a new facility, or staff even shift office space requiring moving assistance. The Maintenance Associate must be willing to take a great deal of direction from the Facilities Manager and be flexible around schedules and duties.Job Function:
  • Helps to cover for co-workers during times of co-worker absence by completing duties usually assigned to others.
  • Provides on-call coverage on a rotation basis.
  • Responds immediately and in an effective manner to on-call requests.
  • Responds to all duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager or Maintenance Lead.
  • Responds as soon as possible to requests by staff to address special cleaning needs, especially in school and residential settings.
  • Is continuously productive, seeking out additional tasks during any slow times.
  • Follows all required safe working practices when dealing with equipment and chemicals.
  • Maintains tools, equipment and supplies and reports any shortages in inventory immediately to the Facilities Manager.
  • Assists with ground upkeep and snow removal.
  • Follows all safety procedures related to the task at hand and reports any safety concerns immediately to a supervisor.
  • Inspects facilities on a regular basis to maintain a consistent workload and to ensure facility safety.
  • Completes routine preventative maintenance tasks as assigned by Facilities Manager or Maintenance Lead.
  • Undertakes major remodeling projects as outlined by the facilities manager.
  • Will assist on-site contractors with anything they may need.
Job Qualifications:
  • Must have minimum of a high school diploma or GED
  • Previous maintenance experience and/or specialized training in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, etc.
  • Continues to expand knowledge of techniques through formal training and on the job learning from the Facilities Manager and other Maintenance staff
  • Ability to complete basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, yard care, etc.
  • Effective time management.
  • Ability to work independently and in a project team.
  • Maintains a professional and courteous attitude and demeanor.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with agency staff and clients.
  • Reads, understands, and abides by all agency policies and procedures.
  • Has a basic understanding of the needs of agency clients, and how their challenges impact facilities work.
  • Treats every individual with the same level of courtesy and respect regardless of any personal factors, and acts without bias toward co-workers and clients.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding client and agency information.
  • Has a good understanding of the agency's mission and programs and supports the program staff in striving toward their desired outcomes.
  • Must be able to read written instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate well in writing or speaking.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk most of the working day.
  • Physical body dexterity allows bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, etc. when moving, lifting, or installing equipment, appliances, furniture, etc.
  • Ability to work in various temperatures and seasonal conditions.
  • Must possess a valid Illinois Driver's license and personal vehicle to transport self, equipment, and tools to various agency locations.
