Salary: $3,167.00 - $4,194.00 Monthly Location : Moses Lake, WA Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 24-65 Division: Administrative Services Department: Residence Halls Opening Date: 10/22/2024 Closing Date: 11/12/2024 11:59 PM Pacific Position Summary Big Bend Community College (BBCC) a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin or Central Washington invites applications for a Maintenance Custodian in the college's Residence Halls. Under general supervision, this position will perform a variety of routine maintenance work in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, and perform custodial duties as well as related work. This position reports to the Director of Residence Halls and Residence Life. This is an overtime eligible position. BBCC's organizational strength is captured in our small but might spirit. Essential Job DutiesESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Essential duties and responsibilities include, but will not be limited to the following:
  • Ensure all communal areas are cleaned and maintained to a high standard.
  • Maintain, clean, and wax all required student rooms prior to occupancy.
  • Keep the exterior of the building clean and maintained, by pulling trash from the building and picking up liter around the buildings. This also may include the cleaning of exterior windows.
  • During inclement weather, ensure all exterior pathways and driveways are treated with deicer and cleared of snow.
  • Carry out monthly fire extinguisher checks; notify supervisor if there has been any equipment tampered with.
  • Escort service contractors doing work in the Residence Halls, confirming safety protocols are being followed, and enhancing safety of the residents and their possessions.
  • Train, delegate to and check the work of student employees, as directed by the Director of Residence Halls.
  • Check and monitor inventory of supplies, notify Director of Residence Halls when re-ordering is required and receive, check-in, and stock new supply shipments.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and repairs on plumbing, electrical, and locking mechanisms. This may include but is not limited to patching and painting, changing light bulbs, replacing electrical sockets, unclogging drains, cleaning and changing air conditioner filers, changing lock cores, replacing faucet washers and screens, and replacing shower heads.
  • Repair and maintain furniture in residence halls. Put new furniture together when ordered for residence halls.
  • Help train other residence hall custodians.
OTHER WORK ACTIVITIES:
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of SDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
  • Ensures compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
  • Conduct self in a professional manner and ensures the interaction with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive to the college's values.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as may be required.
DUTIES OF THE POSITION REQUIRE EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE IN:
  • Methods of maintaining, cleaning, and preserving a variety of surfaces.
  • Proper use of a wide range of chemicals according too state and federal regulations.
  • Handling and disposal of hazardous materials and blood borne pathogens with care.
DUTIES OF THE POSITION REQUIRE THE ABILITY TO:
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS), room diagrams and instructions.
  • Demonstrates positive customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to adjust workload in a variable paced work environment with work orders and cleaning.
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks and deal with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work independently and reliably.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is expected.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and understanding the rhythm of the academic schedule.
REQUIRED WORK SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position works Monday through Thursday from 7:00am to 4:00pm and Friday 7:00am to 1:30pm. Hours of work are based on the needs of the department and college and may be adjusted. Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to lifting heavy items (up to 50lbs, unassisted) push/pull, stooping, bending, standing, grasping, climbing ladders, climbing stairs, and walking. Must be able to work safety in an environment containing caustic chemicals, cleaning materials, dust, and noise. Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions. May be exposed to high noise levels at times, and extreme temperature changes. Minimum & Desirable QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: At the time of application, all candidates must posses the following:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • General professional custodial/janitorial experience and maintenance experience.
  • A valid, unrestricted driver's license from Washington or another state.
  • Current valid automobile insurance.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully as a contributing team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple tasks and deal positively with frequent interruptions.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
