The Maintenance 1 position is accountable to ensure the safe and productive operation of the plant and must possess aptitude for multiple disciplines and be proficient in the maintenance of equipment associated with all functional areas within the plant. This position works on rotating shifts-days, nights, weekends, and holidays and is a Safety Sensitive Position/Job.The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities: Safety
  • Comply with applicable MSHA regulations as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and procedures applying to the worker or person that are part of a safety and health management system for the mine.
  • If the worker has information that other persons need to know to fulfil their obligations or duties under the CFR, or to protect themselves from the risk of injury or illness, to give the information to the other persons.
  • Accept personal responsibility for your own safety by working to maintain a safe work environment and evaluating all tasks utilizing the Covia SLAM (Stop, Look, Analyze, Manage) risk protocol. Report all near miss incidents, unsafe acts, or situations and injures immediately.
  • Administer all facets of the safety and health policies while adhering to the SLAM risk method within the sphere of all tasks.
  • Take any other reasonable and necessary course of action to ensure anyone is not exposed to an unacceptable level of risk.
  • Work or carry out the worker's activities in a way that does not expose the worker or someone else to an unacceptable level of risk.
  • Ensure, to the extent of the responsibilities and duties allocated to the worker or person, that the work and activities under the worker's control, supervision, or leadership is conducted in a way that does not expose the worker or person or someone else to an unacceptable level of risk.
Operations
  • Adhere to site procedures and instructions given by supervisors.
  • Operate and service equipment in a safe manner which is most efficient and reduces damage, downtime, and quality issues.
  • Complete required paperwork in an orderly, accurate, and professional fashion. Communicate mechanical issues and concerns that affect production process directly with production supervisor and kiln operator as to minimize potential negative effects on production.
  • Able to become competent in use computerized maintenance work order and work history software.
  • Assist with any continuous improvement projects as necessary. Work closely with Maintenance Superintendent to identify areas or equipment requiring improvement or modification to improve overall operation.
  • Perform plant maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs associated with all on-site equipment.
  • Fabricate new equipment or repair components for the plant's machinery.
  • Cut/weld components within the plant
  • Complete electrical component installations.
  • Maintain housekeeping in the plant as required or directed.
  • Proactively manage equipment to ensure availability and reliability targets are met.
  • Assist in the planning maintenance tasks.
  • Perform all other duties as needed or assigned.
The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
  • Literacy in English, both written and spoken.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience within plant operations (preferably mineral processing).
  • Previous experience in a maintenance role (at least two years).
  • Previous exposure to preventative maintenance strategies.
  • Must be able to read manuals, blueprints, and electrical diagrams.
  • Demonstrated experience in contributing within a team of professionals to deliver against set targets.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety with previous experience in identifying and managing risks.
Training in the following areas will be given preference:
  • Experience in ball mills and kilns.
  • Welding and metal fabrication.
  • Dust collection systems and associated fans.
  • Industrial fluid power and pumping systems.
  • Mechanical drives and power transmission.
  • Replacing and troubleshooting electrical motors.
  • Industrial electricity and troubleshooting electrical control circuits.
