National Energy is looking for a strong, motivated Maintenance Mechanic to join our team at our McBain Power Plant. The Maintenance Mechanic will report directly to the Maintenance Manager.
The Maintenance Mechanic plans, schedules, and performs or coordinates as required the repairs and Preventive Maintenance activities related to all mechanical systems and components to ensure plant reliability.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Responsibilities:
* Diagnoses and repairs the cause of equipment malfunctions including but not limited to pumps, valves, actuators, gearboxes, compressors, fans, engines, piping, tubing, hydraulics, and all other mechanical equipment operated on site.
* Completes work orders safely, efficiently, and effectively to maintain mechanical systems and components of the plant.
* Fully supports the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (eMaint) by philosophy. Utilizes CMMS to initiate Work Requests, documenting all aspects of work as required on Work Orders, performs CMMS data entry and work order close-out in a thorough and timely fashion.
* Conducts comprehensive analysis into mechanical component and system issues and resolves issues practically and effectively.
* Firmly understands National Energy policies and procedures.
* Installs new mechanical equipment as required.
* Performs Contractor/Vendor oversight as required.
* Seeks out most cost-effective means in completion of tasks while keeping safety at the forefront.
* Provides technical input into the improvement and optimization of plant systems and processes.
* Pursues proactive measures for maintaining power plant reliability.
* Drives innovation into improvement of maintenance teamwork structure and procedures.
* Places the betterment of the team and plant above personal motives.
* Provides solutions to technical and team issues despite barriers that may exist.
* Performs mechanical system and component maintenance and or supervise outside contractors in the performance of such work including the development of work scope and bid analysis.
* Initiates purchase requisitions and performs inventory management activities as necessary.
* Actively participates and contributes to safety programs and initiatives.
* Accurately assesses the risk of equipment deficiencies to plant reliability.
* Creates and maintains effective relationships amongst team and other groups in the plant.
* Collaborates with other groups/disciplines for efficient resolution to complex issues.
* Keeps operations staff on shift fully informed of unusual conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations.
Minimum Requirements:
* High School Diploma required.
* 5 years in an industrial/power industry setting as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician.
* Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must possess a valid state of Michigan drivers license.
Preferred Experience:
* Trade School, Military Training, or degree in Mechanical discipline.
* Experience with CMMS programs.
* Experience with high pressure steam systems.
* Experience in welding and pipefitting.
* Experience in rigging.
* Experience in hydraulics.
* Experience in shaft alignment.
* Minimum of 5 years previous experience in biomass related industry is an asset.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Able to demonstrate journeyman-level knowledge in mechanical field.
* Able to operate industrial equipment (wheel loaders, skid steers, forklifts, manlifts, etc.)
* Familiar with conveying equipment.
* Reads and understands Piping and Instrumentation Drawings and Isometric Drawings.
* Self-motivated and self-directed to work independently with minimal supervision, yet able to work as a team member.
* Reads and understands Safety requirements.
* Ability to perform and manage multiple varied tasks in an industrial environment.
* A general knowledge of power plant operations is desired.
* Familiarity with power plant construction and operations is an asset.
* Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project or similar project software considered a plus.
* Excellent organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work under minimum direction and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
* Strong math and analytical skills.
* Must be willing to work overtime as required.
* Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
* Must be able to work in high noise areas with proper PPE.
* Must be able to work in confined spaces and at heights.
* Must be able to work in dusty and dirty atmosphere.
* Must be able to work outdoors in high temperature and low temperature conditions.
* Ability to pass company required drug testing and background checks.
* Must be willing to travel within Michigan to sister plant to support outages twice/year.
