Location Primarily in Mt. Pleasant, MI (may vary per management discretion)Reports to Maintenance Team Leader and/or Receiving Team LeaderSummary The Maintenance/Receiving worker's primary duties are to perform maintenance and repair tasks as directed by the Maintenance Manager. Those tasks may include but are not limited to tasks associated with production machinery, facilities, company vehicles, and company trailers. The Maintenance/Receiving worker will also be responsible for grinding blades for shaving machines. This position also is responsible for checking in, punch coding, boxing and entering animal skins into our system, unloading and loading trucks, and organizing warehouse(s). Essential Functions •Maintain a positive consistency in the following five attributes: Quality, Attitude, Teamwork, Production, and Attendance •Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on company property•Clean blades and prepare for precutting of blades, precut blades for blade grinding•Grind blades to smooth sharp edge and bend blades for the shaving machine •Collaborate with Maintenance Manager regarding ordering parts •Thoroughly clean machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling, as necessary•Oil and lubricate moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance•Report damaged, worn, or broken parts•Order and install replacement parts for machines•Identify the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines•Repair broken machines quickly and efficiently•Prepare reports documenting work performed•Clean, organize, inventory, stock, and otherwise maintain shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies•Coordinate with department managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines•Assist in building maintenance and grounds maintenance as needed•Conduct and report truck and trailer annual inspections for DOT•Differentiate between species of animal skins when working in receiving area•Enter orders into Net Suite•Follow all U.S.D.A. regulations•Contact customers for any discrepancies•Box species according to company policy•Work with Customer Service on any issues•Check in orders in receiving from UPS, USPS, FedEx, skinning, truck runs, drop offs, etc.•Abide by the chemical information sheets •Participate in Safety/Loss Control Programs as determined by EMC Insurance and The Wildlife Gallery, Inc.•Perform other relative duties assigned by supervisors or managersCompetencies •Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills•Work well independently and with others•Effective communication skills•Organized with attention to detail•Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment•Computer skills•Excellent time management skills•Strong analytical and problem-solving skillsPreferred Education and Experience •High School Diploma or GED•1 year of maintenance or receiving experience Physical Demands This job requires the ability to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move, crawl as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery. Must be able to visually inspect machines and other equipment. Must be able to climb ladders. Lifting requirements are classified as Heavy Work. 25-50 pounds of force will be exerted frequently and 50-100 pounds of force occasionally.Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time hourly position. Standard weekly hours are Monday-Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm or Monday-Friday 6:00am - 2:30pm. Shifts may vary per management discretion. Voluntary overtime is occasionally available and mandatory overtime is sometimes required. Some travel may be required. RequirementsRequired Education and Experience: •Must be 18 years old to work at the tannery•Ability to operate both fork truck and straddle stacker •Must have valid driver's license and ability to be approved for company auto insurance •Ability to Acquire DOT Medical Card•Ability to read blueprints, building plans, and repair manuals•Ability to use hand tools and power tools•Ability to follow instructions
