About The Adjutant General's Office:

Role Overview:
You will assist the carpenter, electrician, lineman, HVAC mechanic, painter and/or sign painter in the execution of their duties performing apprentice-level maintenance, repair, and minor construction on the facilities, equipment and systems, roads and grounds of the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center. You may have daily to occasional contact with IDOC crews to direct work assignments. Work is performed inside and outside on 800 acres of grounds with an excess of sixty-five buildings and structures to be maintained. Exposure to hazardous conditions i.e. fumes, asbestos, hot pipes, vapors, insects, rodents, chemicals, grease, electric shock, powered machinery, heights, crawl spaces, tunnels, deep ditches and inclement weather is common. Safety goggles, safety shoes, hardhats, ear protection, gloves, welding helmet/gloves, face mask and cold weather clothes are required to perform some duties due to possible injury from hazardous conditions. Work is performed in a simulated urban warfare training environment. You may be expected to participate as a component of the simulated urban warfare, terrorist or homeland security training operations.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $31,668.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this roles are as follows:
* Make routine carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs.
* Check heating, air conditioning, kitchen, laundry, and maintenance equipment for efficiency and make necessary repairs.
* Install curtain rods, toilet paper and toothbrush holders, tile, screens, window glass, doors, wiring and conduits, plumbing fixtures, and other varied items.
* Check and repair electrical appliances, motors, pumps, fire alarm systems, thermostats, doorbells, and buzzers.
* Repair locks, make keys and provide secure facility and property.
* Assist a skilled trades person on major projects.

What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
* Working knowledge of, and ability to use skills in, carpentry, masonry, plumbing and electrical repairs.
* Ability to read and follow instructions and to handle simple mathematical problems per the mentioned duties above.
* Ability to determine malfunctions of electrical and mechanical equipment and make simple repairs.
* Ability to read blueprints and understand schematics.
* Ability to set tile, finish concrete and plaster and to do tuck pointing.
* Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.
* Ability to use a wide variety of hand and power tools.
You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:
* Must possess a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or must obtain within 90 days of employment.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
