Position Overview:
The maintenance electrician performs the checks, services and repairs necessary to maintain the electrical and the mechanical equipment in the operation of the facility. This includes keeping current with all state and local laws governing master electrician installations, service and repairs and following National Fire Protection (NFPA), Occupational Safety Hazards Association (OSHA), and National Electrical Codes (NEC). Position requires a master electrician's license to be kept current and up to date. A copy shall be kept on file in the Human Resource Department for review.
Essential Functions:
a) Is being responsible for inspecting, getting bids or pulling permits for any needed electrical work.
b) Performs routine preventive maintenance, rounds and work orders as scheduled.
c) Works with outside contractors as needed for service, repair or installation of equipment.
d) Maintains electrical controls, panels, wiring switches or any electrical equipment associated in the operation of the facility or other buildings maintained by the hospital.
e) Performs any needed analysis or measurements to properly price and quote electrical work.
f) Maintains and services any transformers, UPS, or emergency power supply systems.
g) Maintains stock and inventory for those electrical components used in the trade.
h) Performs any urgent, corrective and requisitioned repairs.
i) Inspects wiring and all controls included in the field.
j) Performs preventive maintenance duties required as to maximize operation of equipment or plant.
k) Performs manual duties as required: moves supplies, furniture, replaces light bulbs, removes trash, etc.
l) Reads blueprints, interprets instructions and prepares specifications.
m) Works day, evening or night shift and periodically required to be on standby.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
Qualifications & Skills:
a) Education: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
b) Training & Experience: Five or more years experience.
c) Job Knowledge: Must have ability to read and interpret documents such as O&M Manuals, blueprints, safety rules, procedure manuals. Has the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must have computer knowledge. Must have the ability to work on own with minimal supervision and has ability to inspect the facility and equipment. Must have a working knowledge of the fire alarm and other systems throughout the hospital. Must know how to maintain tools and equipment especially have ability to service and repair specialized electrical equipment as necessary. Must observe safety precautions at all times.
d) License: Master Electrician's License. Required to have and use personal tools.
