Job Description :
The Maintenance Technician I performs a variety of maintenance duties throughout the interior and exterior of the organization's facilities. This individual works both independently and collaboratively with other staff to conduct proactive, preventative, and reactive maintenance tasks. The Maintenance Technician I will troubleshoot issues quickly, repair or replace parts and equipment, and maintain mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other systems (activities that do not require licensure). They will also perform routine janitorial duties and coordinate with contracted or licensed maintenance specialists and vendors when necessary. Ensuring safety and asset control procedures are always followed is a key responsibility. Regular and predictable attendance is critical. The Maintenance Technician I must be able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed and be on call for emergencies or disaster response. Additionally, the Maintenance Technician I is designated as an emergency disaster worker at Glide.Responsibilities and Duties:
    • Perform routine and preventive maintenance and make repairs. Perform emergency service as required;
    • Duties include: cleaning furnace and air conditioning screens, oiling motors and moving parts, changing locks, inventorying, servicing/maintaining HVAC painting, minor carpentry, repairing/replacing office equipment and/or furniture, minor electrical work (not requiring a licensed electrician) such as replacing light bulbs and fuses, routine maintenance and repair work (e.g., door and window hardware replacement, drywall repair, replacing acoustical and linoleum tiles, routine plumbing (e.g., repair/replace leaking faucets, unplug blockages), servicing mechanical systems, drywall patching, window repairs, mopping, vacuuming, laying flooring, washing windows, power washing the building facade, power washing and cleaning sidewalks, processing trash/refuse, processing recycling, moving equipment/furniture, hanging things on walls properly, and similar activities;
    • Performs daily cleaning/janitorial duties;
    • Performs pest control: inspects premises to identify infestation source and extent of damage to property, wall and roof porosity, and access to infested locations. Review reports and diagrams of infested areas and determine treatment type required to eliminate and prevent recurrence of infestation. Direct and/or assist outside contractors in treatment and extermination processes to eliminate and control rodents and insects;
    • Checks work performed by outside contractors, ensuring all items are performed to specification;
    • Maintain equipment, tools, and the facilities offices, workshop, and storage to ensure optimum safety, efficiency, and asset control.
    • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, attending, and actively participating in staff and individual meetings.
    • Uses ticketing system, radios, and cell phones to collect, share, and file information related to maintenance work needed and/or completed. Proactively inspects assigned areas for repair.
    • Engages in continuous training to improve maintenance skills.
Qualifications:
    • Must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check, including a comprehensive review at the local, state, and federal levels (includes fingerprinting and cross-referencing with law enforcement databases).
    • Must have basic conversational English skills to understand instructions, communicate with team members, and ensure safety on the job.
    • Ability to perform a wide variety of maintenance and operational tasks;
    • Ability to follow instructions and ask questions respectfully, in a sometimes fast paced and changing environments.
    • Contributes to a team environment, works independently and collaboratively;
    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and multi-task within specific timelines;
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision;

Education:
    • High school diploma/GED and 1+ years of verifiable hands-on general maintenance experience (i.e., plumbing, electrical, carpeting, painting, etc.) is preferred with proficiency in at least one major area or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job;
    • Basic knowledge of the use and operation of hand tools, power tools, and equipment such as hammers, hoists, drills, and wrenches, precision measuring devices and electrical testing devices. Basic knowledge of proper safety techniques and procedures;
    • Basic knowledge of how to safely mix, transfer and dispose of construction materials such as concrete, paint, cleaning chemicals, adhesives, and plasters;
    • Experience working in a non-profit/human service setting with a similar population, including homeless, poor, substance users, and persons with mental illness helpful.
    • Ability to read assembly instructions, follow inspection sheets, and otherwise follow directions in English.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    • Possession and maintenance of a valid California class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record;
    • OSHA training, technical certifications helpful;
    • First Aid/CPR, N.E.R.T, Incident Command training helpful, but not required.
    • Must pass tuberculosis screening
    • Must show proof of pertussis, influenza and measles, and COVID immunizations
