PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Maintains and repairs heavy-line fixed and mobile equipment for the railroad tie plant so that equipment breakage and downtime is minimized.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

* Uses welding and cutting tools to maintain and repair equipment and enable safe operation

* Inspects and replaces equipment parts such as engines, tires, hydraulic cylinders, etc

* Services engines and exchanges fluids in equipment as needed

* Follows safety procedures to ensure safe working conditions for themselves, plant workers, and equipment operators

* Assumes duties of Maintenance Supervisor when necessary

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

* High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)

* Must possess a valid driver's license

* Working knowledge of rail, other track material (OTM), switches, and bridge material to sort, stack, house and handle appropriately

* Basic computer skills

* Working knowledge of warehouse and/or heavy construction equipment

* Knowledge of safe work environment applications

* This position has a regular full-time schedule with a normal work week of Monday through Friday. There may be a need for occasional work after hours or weekends.

* This position may require minimal travel up to 10% of the time.

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
