JCEO is a private, not-for-profit human service agency that serves the residents of Clinton and Franklin Counties in New York State. All programs are based on JCEO's mission to alleviate poverty through practical, timely, and innovative services that emphasize and develop problem-solving skills for people. The job responsibilities of the Maintenance Technician include upkeep and repair of building structures, grounds maintenance, and ensuring cleanliness and sanitation in and around Agency facilities according to established Agency standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs assigned building and ground maintenance and custodial jobs. These jobs may include: lawn mowing, trimming, removing weeds, raking, trash removal, food pickups, snow removal, salting walkways, restocking, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, window cleaning, general cleaning and any other related building and ground maintenance duties.
  • Engages in painting and performing structural repairs to masonry, woodwork, and furnishings of buildings.
  • Builds and installs counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework and trim.
  • Performs minor and routine plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities.
  • Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Travel required within service area.
  • Confers with supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations, including Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.
  • Performs all duties in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the Joint Council for Economic Opportunity, Inc.
  • All other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months related experience and/or training; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid New York State driver's license.
