Summary/Objective The Maintenance Technician contributes to the overall mission of Public Works by working as a crewmember and contributing to public health and safety. Responsible for assisting in all related maintenance administered by the relevant division. Essential Functions All Maintenance Technicians perform repairs using general knowledge of basic construction techniques.

  • Operates single/tandem axle trucks, heavy equipment, and various power/hand tools.
  • Performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Assists in securing work areas and maintaining safe worksites by placement of appropriate warning devices while wearing special protective devices.
  • Answers and responds to public and staff inquiries regarding related division.
  • Maintains records regarding work completed.
  • Works with contractors and developers on repairs and maintenance.
  • Attends meetings and training as required.
Specific duties of Maintenance Technicians in: Wastewater Sewer Maintenance:
  • Performs preventative maintenance on the city's sewer gathering system by operating line maintenance equipment.
Perform other duties as requested:
  • Responds to emergency call-backs, including seasonal emergencies.
  • Works overtime as needed to complete regular and seasonal work.
  • Assists supervisors and other departmental personnel in other projects for the benefit of the City and/or department.
  • Division-specific duties may include: production of signs, landscaping, yard repair, meter repairs, and road right-of-way (RROW) mowing.

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Class A commercial driver's license with airbrakes and tanker endorsement within 90 days of employment
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Two years' relevant experience in construction or related area.
Additional Qualifications
  • Employees of Public Works Streets, Fleet and Stormwater and Public Works Water and Wastewater Maintenance and Public Works Traffic crews must reside within a 25-mile radius of the respective Public Works Shops for the purpose of responding to call backs and after-hours or on-call duties.
