Salary : $30,388.80 Annually Location : Aiken, SC Job Type: Full-Time Department: Public Services Division: Buildings & Grounds Opening Date: 07/05/2024 Closing Date: Continuous Description The City of Aiken is seeking a Maintenance Worker to join our Public Services Department in the Buildings and Grounds Division. Examples of Duties
  • Installation and maintenance of seasonal flowerbeds
  • General landscaping maintenance
  • Performing manual labor and related duties
  • Installs sod, trees and various other plants
  • Applies pesticides and herbicides
  • Operates chipper and a variety of commercial mowers and small engine hand tools
  • Works in inclement weather
Teamwork is an essential function of the job and at times it may be required that the candidate work outside the Grounds Division. Minimum Qualifications
  • A working knowledge of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees is preferred
  • Experience with tractor/large equipment is desirable
  • Must be able to read and write, as well as understand and follow verbal instructions
  • Must have a valid state driver's license

Retirement Full-time employees participate in the Defined Contribution 401(a) Retirement Plan. After one year of employment, the employee will begin contributing 6% to the Plan, with the City making a matching 6% contribution. Employees are fully vested after 5 years of service.
