Work involves a variety of tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of the stormwater management system. Duties include assisting in the inspection and maintenance of stormwater facilities such as pipes, stormdrains, manholes and outfalls, as well as surface water quality treatment systems such as underground exfiltration, bioswales, pollution control devices and retention ponds. Work occasionally involves assisting other departments such as Public Works and Water Reclamation on special projects as required. Tasks include inspection and documentation for waterway pollution prevention and potential stormwater pollution discharge. Assignments are received in either written or oral form. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Stormwater Operations Superintendent and is checked for progress and completion.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONPerform and/or assist with installation, maintenance/cleaning, repair and/or replacement of stormdrains, manholes, pipes, outfalls and other stormwater facilities. Manually assists in vacuum cleaning stormdrains and storm pipes. Assists in stormdrain retrofit fabrication - metal and concrete work.Perform and/or assist with installation, maintenance/cleaning, repair and/or replacement of water quality treatment systems such as bioswales, underground exfiltration tanks, pollution control devices, landscape buffers and retention ponds.Assist in performing inspections and documenting condition of stormdrains, stormlines and outfalls as part of federal/state NDPES permit reporting requirements.Assist in the maintenance of the stormwater facility database, providing location/condition of stormwater facilities using electronic data collection equipment.Participate in scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of department equipment such as generators, small pumps, chainsaws, demolition saws, impact hammers. Perform routine maintenance on stormwater equipment and hand/power tools.Perform stormwater landscape BMP (best management practice) maintenance including mowing, trimming and litter/debris removal.Assist with roadway construction and restoration including driveways, curbs, and sidewalks.***May be required to work during a declared emergency and may be requested to work during an undeclared emergency or in the aftermath of an event associated with a declared emergency. Position will require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) B - minimum, within 12 months of hire. After 6 months of satisfactory performance, the position will be considered for promotion to Maintenance Worker 2 (MW2). The MW2 position requires additional certifications including a stormwater operator level 1 certification and the Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector Tiers 1 and 2 Certification.
