JOB SUMMARYUnder supervision of the Crewleader or Supervisor II, performs heavy manual work involving limited skills in various maintenance and construction tasks. The Maintenance Worker I-Water Field Operations performs general underground utility-related work, grounds keeping, some building maintenance, and janitorial duties. Employee also performs laboring tasks requiring the use of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment, operates maintenance and construction automotive equipment, and maintains the tools and/or equipment used.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS* Installs water mains, service lines, meters, and fire hydrants.* Assists Maintenance Worker III, Supervisor II and maintenance personnel with preventative and construction maintenance projects.* Drives trucks and operates tractor loaders and other equipment used in grounds maintenance and underground utility-related work.* Operates tractor loaders for loading and spreading dirt and for a variety of projects, power mowers, edgers, weed eaters, power saws, and tapping machines.* Performs landscape restoration involving asphalt, concrete and sod.* Performs janitorial work, such as sweeping, mopping, window cleaning, vacuuming and general cleaning.* Paints meter stations and fire hydrants.* Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared or undeclared emergency.* Performs other related job duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities* Knowledge of tools and equipment used in pipeline construction and maintenance and in building and grounds maintenance.* Knowledge of basic safety rules regarding traffic control and excavations.* Skill in physical strength and agility to perform heavy manual labor.* Skill in various utility maintenance and construction tasks.* Ability to operate trucks/trailers, tractors, loaders, tapping machines, air and hydraulic equipment, lawn maintenance equipment and related construction equipment.* Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:High school diploma or GED certificate with one (1) year of previous experience working in utility maintenance or related construction; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Special Qualifications:Must possess a valid state of Florida Class B CDL driver's license or must obtain a Class B CDL driver license temporary permit issued by the Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles within 45 days of employment and successful licensure within 120 days of obtaining temporary permit.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work is generally heavy and may require exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 50 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
