Salary: $4,539.00 - $6,079.00 Monthly Location : Aberdeen, WA Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 2024.10.24 Department: Public Works - Streets Opening Date: 11/19/2024 Closing Date: 11/26/2024 12:00 PM Pacific Description The Maintenance Worker II functions as Public Works operator with department or multi-department job skills. Depending on department functions, the position may respond to main breaks, snow, flood, ice, breakdowns, or other emergencies; works independently or as part of a crew; and operates a wide variety of Public Works heavy and light equipment, tools, and computers. The Maintenance Worker III functions as journey-level Public Works operator with good public works maintenance and construction experience. Depending on department functions, the position may serve as the senior person in charge of jobs; responds to main breaks, snow, flood, ice, break downs or other emergencies; works independently or as a member of a crew; operates computerized data systems and networks and performs carpentry, plumbing, masonry, welding or weekend watch. Examples of DutiesMaintenance Worker II: Performs emergency and first response duties for main breaks, snow, flood, ice, traffic, or other emergencies. Operates heavy and other construction equipment and hand tools ranging from drills and shovels to backhoes, 2-axle trucks and other equipment common to public works maintenance, repair, and construction jobs. Serves as public works crew person and performs traffic control, safety. and department specialty functions. Checks out jobs, completes work orders and manual and computer records. Maintenance Worker III: Coordinates and performs emergency and first response duties for main breaks, snow, flood, ice, traffic, or other emergencies. Operates heavy construction equipment such as backhoes, boom truck, crawler tractors, 3-axle trucks and equipment common to heavy construction. Performs carpentry, plumbing, welding and masonry duties with moderate skill. The Maintenance Worker III will lay out, runs jobs, and is responsible for safety and traffic controls. Typical QualificationsMaintenance Worker II: Knowledge of: rules and safe operation of vehicles and tools; Washington State motor vehicle laws and rules governing use of City equipment; vehicle care and operating procedures. Ability to: perform heavy physical labor for extended periods of time and in inclement weather; operate light trucks in a safe and skillful manner; operate pipe tapping and pushing machines and sewer jets where assignment so requires; make adjustments and emergency repairs to equipment; keep basic computerized and manual records; communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, departments and the public; work independently or cooperatively in work groups. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training which provides the level of knowledge, skill and ability equivalent to: High school graduation or GED; two years of experience in street, wastewater, or water maintenance functions. LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid WA State Driver's License. Flagging and First Aid Cards may be required. Maintenance Worker III: Knowledge of: rules and safe operation of vehicles and equipment; heavy equipment and hazards associated with area of work assignment; Washington State motor vehicle laws and traffic codes; rules governing use of City equipment; vehicle care and operating procedures; methods and tools used in servicing and maintaining automotive equipment; fundamentals of rough construction, including common methods of leveling and alignment; departmental policy and procedures. Ability to: perform specialty and heavy equipment operations as well as heavy physical labor for extended periods of time and in inclement weather; operate equipment in a safe and skillful manner; make adjustments and emergency repairs to equipment; follow oral and written instructions; proceed through several stages of assigned projects without on-site supervision; work efficiently and safely; perform operating maintenance as scheduled on assigned equipment; keep records of completed work. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training which provides the level of knowledge, skill and ability equivalent to: High school graduation or GED with continuing education workshops, classes and study courses equivalent to a four-year apprenticeship; four years of experience comparable to a Maintenance Worker II in street, wastewater, water system or electrical system maintenance to include work with automated and computerized systems and comparable facilities and equipment. LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid WA State Driver's License free from serious or frequent violations. Class A CDL - Or the ability to obtain one within designated timeframe. Flagging and First Aid Cards may be required. Specialty licenses and certifications may be required on a departmental basis. Examples include: Water Distribution Specialist, Herbicide/Pesticide License and Basic Treatment Operator (for Wastewater).
