Our network of 120 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.Position Summary:The Maintenance Worker is responsible for ensuring that all areas of a 14-unit and a 19-unit building are cleaned according to the provided schedule. The Maintenance Worker will also perform preventative maintenance and repairs as needed.Principal Responsibilities: General cleaning of common areas and perimeter of the building. Removal of garbage and recyclables in compliance with DSNY rules and regulations. Cleaning of compactor and garbage chute rooms. Coordinating and monitoring access for outside contractors and vendors as assigned. Responding to daily requests for repairs. Performing preventative maintenance on mechanical systems. Maintaining the common area lighting, emergency exit doors and lights, laundry facilities. Maintaining outdoor grounds-landscaping, snow removal, storm maintenance and paint touch ups. Maintaining stock inventory and utilization of maintenance materials and supplies. Conducting annual apartment inspection and daily interior and exterior inspections. Preparing vacant units for occupancy. Reporting directly to the Residence Director daily.Competencies: Build Relationships: Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the organization. Organization: Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details/data/information/activities.Skill and Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (required) 1+ years of maintenance experience (required) Ability to read and follow instructionsPhysical Demands: Required Constantly: Walking, standing, climbing stairs, lifting of materials and tools (25-50 pounds). Required Frequently: Climbing ladders, operating machinery.
