This Maintenance Worker position will focus on providing exceptional experiences for our park patrons by serving as a member of the Special Events, Refuse and Recycling unit. Incumbent will assist with City Park properties and special events refuse disposal. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from supervisor
  • Inspects and sorts material items into bins according to approved type for recycling; places waste material barrels onto lifter to dump contents
  • Loads recyclable materials into recycling truck, yard waste into rear loader vehicles, and park facility and roadside trash onto truck to deliver refuse to landfill
  • Assists equipment operator with backing the vehicle into refuse/recycling areas
  • Operates compaction refuse truck and flatbed dump trucks collecting solid waste and recycling from City parks and facilities
  • Inspects trash containers and repairs as needed
  • Assists with cleanup of special events and the city in cleanup and repairs during inclement weather situations (may require working extended hours during these events)
  • Work schedule requires working a modified week that includes every other weekend

Typical QualificationsEducation and Experience:High School Diploma or GED and one year of maintenance or customer service experience related to assignment. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.Licensing and Certifications:
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire required
  • Valid North Carolina Class B Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire preferred
