Middough Inc. - 'TOP WORKPLACES' Award Winner!Major Projects Manager Agro-Industrial Industry - Position and ResponsibilitiesAs a Major Projects Manager (MPM) of the Agro-Industrial Industry with Middough, you will be responsible for the overall development, planning and execution of large complex engineering/construction projects or programs of small projects. The MPM provides leadership, development of project scope, cost estimating & budgets, planning & scheduling, coordination and control of project resources, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, contractual requirements, project profitability, EH&S compliance, and client satisfaction. The MPM possesses broad knowledge, understanding and experience with the standard engineering/construction project delivery models including DBB, EPCM, EPC, CM or DB. MPMs provide leadership and organization to the project, maintains specific knowledge of planning and scheduling functions, and a thorough understanding of contract administration, risk management and health/safety issues. The MPM serves as the primary point of contact for the client, contractors, subcontractors, and other outside consultants specific to the project.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Set the priority of safety as paramount in all planning and execution.
  • Lead the proposal development team in defining and establishing the project scope of work, establishing project strategy, setting project budgets, preparing final proposal, securing necessary management reviews & approvals and negotiating final agreements per company project procedures.
  • Mobilize the required staff, execute the project, conform to scope of work and contractual requirements in accordance with Company project procedures.
  • Plan the project through proactive planning and scheduling exercises, keep the Project Team posted on deliverable status and look ahead schedules, and hold project stakeholders accountable for developing project workarounds and micro level recovery schedules.
  • Manage meetings with schedules and action items lists.
  • Manage the engineering, project support services and construction group in the completion of defined work scope for a project from contract award to final close out.
  • Manage changes in scope/schedule/cost and secure change authorizations, as required. Proactively manage internal change authorizations.
  • Manage the preparation project specification/scopes for subcontractors and major equipment suppliers and negotiate final agreements.
  • Manage project revenue, costs, and quality to ensure the profitability and technical performance of the project; develop innovative actions to correct variances to scope, budget and/or schedule.
  • Prepare monthly project reports and manages work with an action items list.
  • Engage project controls group and develop mutually agreeable Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for the project or program.
  • Exercise cost efficient and innovative approaches in the design to save construction costs and improve productivity.
  • Anticipate, recognize, and identify key project issues/problems; establish objectives and priorities to implement and direct solutions.
  • Prepare periodic reports for management and clients to track project progress, cost, schedule, and quality of performance.
  • Support business and relationship development activities of the BGM, BRM and SPM.
Education, Experience and SkillsThe successful candidate will possess the following:
  • 20+ years' experience managing complex projects in an engineering and construction environment.
  • Accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural or Engineering discipline.
  • Experience with and general knowledge of contract and liability issues.
  • Experience in the agro-industrial industry required.
  • Knowledge of, but not limited to, corn, soybean, wheat, oat, sugar beet, sugar cane, and cocoa processing.
  • Understanding of the management of Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects including engineering, construction and commissioning, and start-ups.
  • PMP Certification preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with clients and all levels within the Company around professionalism, trust, integrity, and collaboration.
  • Ability to multi-task and be highly organized for effective project planning.
  • Excellent attention to detail and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
