SCOPE: Under direct supervision, performs mammography exams, screening and diagnostic studies, and needle localizations. Ensures technical quality of procedures and maintains knowledge of quality control and OSHA guidelines. Operates within standard procedures and pre-established guidelines to complete tasks. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs routine digital mammography procedures as ordered. Computes and selects proper technical factors based on patient size, physical condition and suspected pathology.
  • Prepares each patient for examination by confirming patients history and explaining the exam process. Communicates patient details and areas of concern to physicians and others as appropriate. Enters exam details and charge information into computer. Maintains supplies for diagnostic procedures.
  • Ensures films and records are properly completed with relevant patient identification data and film labeling requirements.
  • Prepares, adjusts, and cleans equipment, patient exam area and dark room. Checks equipment to ensure it is in proper working condition and notifies technicians when repairs are needed.
  • Follows all safety standards and ensures the physical comfort and safety of patients during procedures. Provides the proper protective gear such, as the radiation badge monitors, to individuals in the exam area.
  • Other duties as requested or assigned.
Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited School of Radiology and/or School of Mammography (MQSA). Current: CPR certificate or American Registry of Radiology Technologist required. Some ultrasound work experience preferred.

Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment. Work will involve in-person interaction with co-workers and management and/or clients. Work may require minimal travel by automobile to office sites.
