Summary of Position: Provides leadership in the administration, organization, supervision, and daily operations of Access Services staff, including but not limited to the scheduling of service provision, the maintenance of records and tracking systems, the planning and development of effective policies and procedures, processing of all student accommodation applications, and determining fiscal obligations in order to improve services and to ensure compliance under the mandates of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Title IX through proactive, sustained, and supportive methods that enhance student success and develop independent learners. This is a hybrid eligible position that would allow for 1-2 days a week working from home after the training period. Essential Functions 1. Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department. 3. Student Success is the cornerstone of Western's culture, and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success. 4. Manage Compliance and Strategic Planning - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Provide leadership, implement, and monitor compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) the amendments to the ADA, and maintain Title IX compliance, and investigate compliance complaints as appropriate
  • Promote understanding and awareness of programs, needs and innovative services in the field of disability services and provide trainings on resources, accommodations, best practices, and Universal Design, for administration, faculty, staff, and the community
  • Train faculty partners on current and emerging legal and liability trends related
  • to serving students with disabilities by maintaining current knowledge of national, state, and local legislation and disability-related issues, rules, and policies
  • Provide consultation with faculty and administrators regarding academic accommodations, compliance with legal responsibilities, as well as instructional, programmatic, physical and curriculum modifications
  • Determine goals, strategies, and operational plans in alignment with the
  • college's priorities and key results and adhere to the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) Program Standards and Performance Indicators
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with partner educational institutions, community agencies, and professional organizations; participate in professional development activities through presentations, publications, attendance at conferences and State Called meetings
5. Direct and Supervise Access Services and Program Operations - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Direct, oversee, and supervise Access Services staff
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement department guidelines, policies, and procedures: Housing, ESA, Service Animal, UDL, Captioning, Activities/Events, Language Access Plan
  • Review medical, psychological, and rehabilitation evaluations with students to determine appropriate academic accommodations in courses, programs, facilities, services, and activities on campus on a case-by-case basis
  • Serve as a liaison to administration, academic divisions, and college services pertaining to service needs and challenges of students with disabilities
  • Facilitate the acquisition and availability of a wide variety of assistive technology to help students access materials in alternative formats
  • Determine fiscal obligations and manage budgets
  • Lead and direct all neurodiverse initiatives and interventions on campus
  • Manage and maintain schedules of freelance interpreters
  • Create an inclusive space to enhance students with disabilities sense of belonging
  • Serve on relevant committees including CARE Team to provide insights and information from an equity and accessibility perspective and Safety Committee to work with facilities regarding campus accessibility
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required in related field with 3 yrs occupational experience OR
  • Education in related field combined with related occupational experience totaling 7 yrs. OR
  • Related Occupational experience totaling 7 yrs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in related field
  • 5 years experience
  • Knowledge of accommodations and support services provided to students with disabilities in higher education.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws as they pertain to working with students with disabilities in an higher education.
  • Knowledge of principles of supervision, training, and practices of office management.
  • Experience with disability services in a higher education setting
