About Oakland Promise
Oakland Promise's (“OP”) mission is to engage the Oakland community to advance equity and economic mobility through cradle-to-career achievement. OP is available to young learners (from newborns to college graduates) and their families who reside in Oakland. We offer every child financial resources, educational programming, mentorship, and a supportive community to help them and their families seek out and thrive in higher education and the career of their choosing. OP achieves its work through four key programs: Brilliant Baby, Kindergarten to College, College Access, and College Completion and serves as a convener and grantmaker for local community organizations to achieve collective impact.
Position Summary
The Early Learning Parent Education and Support Leader will be responsible for developing, overseeing, and implementing a comprehensive parent education plan for Brilliant Baby families. The primary focus of this role is to ensure that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources to support their child's transition to kindergarten and beyond. This leader will also coordinate efforts to improve enrollment in Oakland-based PK and TK-5 schools as well as to increase Brilliant Baby enrollment for eligible children and families.

What You Will Do (Duties and Responsibilities)
Comprehensive Parent Education Plan
- Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for educating parents about early childhood education, incorporating developmental milestones, knowledge and skills important for kindergarten readiness, and how to navigate relevant systems.
- Ensure workshops and resources meet the goals of the plan, utilizing local partners (e.g., Bananas, Tandem, City of Oakland Head Start) to support delivery.
- If applicable, personally lead workshops or provide content delivery based on expertise in early childhood education.
- Focus on areas such as understanding the requirements for early education programs, how to navigate those systems, and how parents can support their child's learning as their first teacher.
- Provide specialized support for families of English language learners (ELL) and those with special needs, ensuring they receive tailored resources and guidance.
Transition Support for Kindergarten Readiness
- Analyze matriculation metrics and develop new strategies to understand BB's role in increasing former Brilliant Babies' enrollment into Oakland TK and kindergarten classes.
- Expand partnerships with Oakland preschools and TK-5 schools to ensure smooth transitions for children entering kindergarten.
- Facilitate or coordinate school tours for families
- Support families in understanding their options, requirements, and the steps needed for successful enrollment into schools
- Co-create strategy and co-lead events and communications related to handing off Brilliant Baby families to the K2C team
Communication & Outreach
- Create a comprehensive communications plan for parent education, including social media content, newsletters, and other channels to keep families informed about early learning opportunities and programming.
- Develop content to engage families about relevant programming and provide continuous updates on opportunities, workshops, and enrollment deadlines.
System Improvement & Data-Driven Decisions
- Work in collaboration with the Impact and Evaluation team to develop new metrics and systems to measure the impact of parent programming.
- Lead efforts to continuously improve the quality and reach of programming based on data analysis and feedback from families, partners, and other stakeholders.
Supervision and Leadership
- Supervise and coach 1-2 direct-reports, ensuring that they are effectively carrying out responsibilities related to orientations, workshops, social media, promotional materials, parent leader development, and training new enrollers.
- Manage parent leaders' program with support from other team members
Organizational Engagement & Other Duties
- Attend and participate in Oakland Promise all-staff and team meetings.
- Meet 1:1 with direct reports and the Program Director each week
- Participate in one fall and one spring event, such as the Oakland Promise Awards Ceremony, as well as all other mandatory events.
- Participate in some evening and weekend events.
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree
- 3+ years of experience teaching or leading programming for schools serving students in preschool/TK or TK-2nd grade, preferably in high-need communities
- Management experience, which could include supervising and coaching teachers, classroom assistants, and/or volunteers
- Experience drafting actionable long-term and short-term plans to achieve goals
- Experience planning and facilitating adult learning of complex topics
- Ability to travel to Oakland Promise office 3x/week as well as off-site partnerships
- Availability for some evening and weekend events
Preferred Qualifications
- Early Childhood or Elementary Education Teaching Credential or equivalent
- Ability to read, write and understand Spanish, Arabic, Cantonese and/or Mam
- Experience with Google Suite, Asana and Salesforce
Compensation and Benefits
- Full time exempt position
- Salary range $85k-$90k, commensurate with experience and qualifications
- Oakland Promise currently has a hybrid work policy. Employees work in the office 3 days/week.
