Summary We're looking for an experienced Greenhouse Manager to oversee operations, staff, and programming at our greenhouse facilities while advancing our mission of supporting adults with developmental disabilities. This key leadership position involves managing all operational aspects including budgeting, staff supervision, program development, and strategic planning, while ensuring high-quality plant production. You will create meaningful work opportunities for participants, develop engaging community programs, and establish efficient greenhouse systems. Your management expertise will help expand our greenhouse offerings while fostering an environment where participants can develop valuable skills and confidence in plant care and production. The Role
- Develop and manage annual greenhouse budgets, production plans, and operational strategies
- Supervise greenhouse staff, including Lead Grower, while providing performance feedback and professional development
- Establish efficient systems for plant production, inventory management, and facilities maintenance
- Create structured learning and employment opportunities for participants at various ability levels
- Develop and implement strategic plans to expand greenhouse offerings and community engagement
- Establish quality control measures and safety protocols for all greenhouse operations
- Plan and oversee community events, workshops, and educational programs in the greenhouse
- Build partnerships with community organizations, suppliers, and potential customers
- Monitor production metrics and adapt operations to meet organizational goals and market demands
- Ensure all greenhouse activities align with Lambs Farm's mission and participant-centered approach
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate greenhouse activities into broader organizational initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agriculture, Business Management, or related field preferred but not required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in greenhouse operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
- Strong knowledge of greenhouse systems management and production planning.
- Knowledge of sustainable growing practices, plant health management, and greenhouse technologies.
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing operational budgets and business plans.
- Experience supervising staff and creating effective training programs.
- Experience working with individuals with varying abilities or in supportive employment settings.
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans and new initiatives.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and facilitate public events, workshops, or educational programs.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred but not required.
- One or more professional certifications such as Certified Professional Horticulturist (CPH), Master Gardener Certification, or Certified Greenhouse Grower are preferred but not required.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, both inside greenhouse environments and in outdoor settings throughout different seasons.
- Physically capable of performing tasks that require bending, lifting, and walking, with the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds to manage mobility aids and assist participants.
- Proficiency in writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including accurate typing, navigating websites, entering and recalling data, using word processors and spreadsheet software, managing emails, and familiarity with digital communication etiquette and techniques.
