Position Summary: The Infection Prevention/Control Manager, is responsible for identifying, investigating, monitoring, and reporting healthcare-associated infections. Collaborates with teams and appropriate stakeholders to create plan of action, infection prevention strategies, provide feedback, and sustain infection prevention strategies. The IP Manager identifies, investigates, and records data concerning hospital acquired infections, those present on admission and potential infections and initiates infection control measures as directed by national protocols and regulatory agencies. The IP Manager directs the program utilizing the standards set forth by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), CMS accrediting organizations, the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Federal Government. Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies, collaborates with local and state health departments for reporting and investigation Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Program Management
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the organizational infection prevention program.
  • Daily Surveillance
  • Prepares and presents surveillance reports to designated committees, including but not limited to Infection Control Committee, Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committee, Patient Safety and Quality Standards Committee.
  • Develop an annual surveillance program based on the population(s) served, services provided, and analysis of surveillance data.
  • Utilize epidemiologic principles to conduct surveillance and investigations.
  • Evaluate and modify the surveillance plan as necessary.
  • Develop, interpret and assist with implementation of infection prevention and control policies and protocols utilizing evidence-based resources
  • Communicate infection prevention information and data to various committees and healthcare workers.
  • Assess, develop educational objectives, goals, and strategies using learning principles and available educational tools and technology. and provide Education to various disciplines
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and learner outcomes.
  • Conducts prospective prevalence studies periodically to evaluate surveillance system effectiveness.
  • Identifies and promptly reports epidemiological variations in level of disease to the Chairperson of the Infection Control Committee, and vice president of Quality/Designees and implements recommendations for prevention and control.
  • Inspects and observes personnel activities to detect possible infection hazards and to evaluate compliance with standards set by the Infection Control Committee.
  • Investigates all hospital acquired infections and develops collaborative multidisciplinary programs to mitigate risk of future occurrences in collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Actively participates and serves as a member of the committee responsible for the evaluation of products and Environment of Care Committee.
  • Notifies the applicable CDC, and Departments of Health and appropriate authorities for all reportable communicable disease.
  • Reviews construction and renovation documents to develop recommendations to reduce patient risk.
Regulatory Requirements
  • Comply with regulatory and mandatory reporting requirements at the local, state and federal levels.
  • Facilitate compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Stay current on infection prevention and control regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Develop, Review policies as needed and edit to remain in compliance with current evidence best practices
Performance Improvement (PI)
  • Utilize PI methodology as defined by the organization QAPI Plan
  • Define the scope of the project and select appropriate PI tools to aid in efficiency, reliability, effectiveness and ensure sustainability of the initiative.
  • Ensure that customer needs and expectations are considered in the development of and continuous improvement of processes, products, and services.
  • Monitor and analyze process and outcome measures to evaluate the effectiveness and sustainability.
  • Participate in PI committees, teams and initiatives as indicated.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 -5 years of experience
  • Bachelor's Degree. Master's in Public Health or Nursing preferred
  • Certificate of Infection Control (CIC) or within 1 year of hire is required
