The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a MANAGER-STERILIZATION-SOD to provide overall leadership for the Sterile Processing Department. Oversees and supports daily operations of all activities that relate to the reprocessing of reusable medical/dental supplies and instrumentation including but not limited to decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization and storage processes to ensure all professional standards and regulations are met. This role includes establishing policies and procedures, developing strategies for operational improvement, maintaining quality control standards, and managing human resources functions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manages, plans, organizes, develops and evaluates Sterile Processing Department operations, reprocessing services, and writes standard operating procedures for key department processes including but not limited to: ordering supplies, storing/organizing inventory, delivery of case carts, inspecting, decontaminating, sterilizing, and cleaning of reusable items, disposing of non-reusable items, correct labeling and packaging, proper loading and unloading of washers and sterilizers, monitoring and maintaining records of sterilization cycles, assembly and packaging.
2. Manages, organizes, and schedules staff workflow and assignments to ensure appropriate staffing to achieve goals of the Sterile Processing Department. Plans and projects staffing needs and requirements.
3. Identifies educational needs and manages the training and evaluation of the sterile processing staff. Ensures the assigned staff maintain all required training, competencies, licensures and/or credentials.
4. Acts as the liaison between clinical services and the Sterile Processing Department by collaborating and communicating information clearly in writing and verbally. Develops action plans to address concerns.
5. Makes recommendations for quantities of instrument acquisition based on capacity analysis for continuous flow. Evaluates new products and equipment, develops options, and makes recommendations. Coordinates the repair and replacement of broken instruments and equipment.
6. Evaluates and addresses operational issues and quality of sterile processing services to include developing and recommending new or revised policies that are consistent with organizational goals and objectives for the Sterile Processing Department.
7. Initiates and processes contracts, manages, interprets, and presents fiscal data to include forecasting resources and equipment needs and administering an allocated budget.
8. Participates in programs and committees including, but not limited to, infection prevention, safety, regulatory compliance, and quality. Stays abreast of current trends and regulatory requirements in Sterilization Services operations and activities.
9. Develops an implementation plan and workflow for potential to integrate the reprocessing of supplies, equipment and instruments located in the school's specialty clinics into the operations of the Sterile Processing Department.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.
(Annual Salary: $60,835 - $98,885)
Bachelor's degree in healthcare or related field and five (5) years of related experience. Prefer two (2) years of supervisory and management experience in sterile processing. Work experience may substitute for education requirement. Certification in Sterile Processing Management (C.S.P.M) preferred but not required. Certification must be attained within 12 months of employment.

* Extensive knowledge of instrument sterilization and material management functions.
