Job Description

  • Proactive and strategic process and people leadership for the planning and execution of all customer shipments
  • Lead complex and large scale transportation planning, ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when, monitoring internal and external events, ensuring satisfactory performance and profitability and supervising day-to-day operations and employees
  • Drive compliance and accountability at all levels with applicable Federal and State laws, approval processes, policies and regulatory requirements
  • Provide performance guidance and leadership to transportation operations team
  • Research and quote transportation costs for customer requests
  • Understand the capabilities of a TMS and continuously review and assess processes to continuously drive incremental process and system improvements
  • Implement lean practices and automation to improve supply chain efficiency and accuracy
  • Ensure carrier performance and event compliance
  • Document SOPs for all Tier A customers and ensure updates are completed as needed to aid in training and ongoing performance improvement
  • Analyze and report on transportation costs, key performance indicators (KPIs) and overall logistics performance
  • Create documentation to support customer business reviews and articulate metrics and performance improvement, along with best-in-class processes and technology utilization
  • Identify and prioritize problems; make suggestions to correct the situations
  • Develop and execute timely resolutions to transit delays; notify clients of any issues with shipments and educate them on industry and/or regulatory changes
  • Determine the most cost-effective recovery plan for missed pick-ups and deliveries
  • Identify accessorial charge patterns and strategies to mitigate additional costs
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant transportation regulations, including domestic and international shipping requirements
  • Build, mentor and lead a high-performing transportation and logistics team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Assist Sales and Accounting departments on invoicing discrepancies
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to Wicker Park Logistics' Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Work closely with operations staff to identify, hire, train, develop and grow key employees and resources, and ensure successful customer deliverables
  • Promote a collaborative work environment and champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the team
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by the business

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain management, with a strong emphasis on transportation and logistics
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, with focus on supply chain management, Logistics, Business or related field preferred
  • Proven track record of leadership in a large, complex organization with high-volume distribution networks
  • In-depth knowledge of transportation networks, logistics best practices, and carrier management
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets, negotiate contracts, and drive cost reductions
  • Proficiency in supply chain technologies such as ERP, TMS, WMS and advanced analytical tools
  • Experience operating and managing freight in all modes of transportation, including international
  • Quick learner, multi-tasker, organized, detail-oriented problem-solver
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven experience managing/prioritizing own work assignments, and meeting deadlines
  • Requires confidence and independent decision-making skills to problem-solve, juggle competing priorities, and provide accurate and responsive customer service
  • Ability to quickly assess client situations and escalate to management as needed
  • Required computer skills: proficiency with TMS, Windows operating system, MS Excel, MS Word, email, and internet browsers.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
