GENERAL PURPOSE The purpose of this position is to produce high-quality sanded furniture components, ensuring the final product meets and exceeds customer expectations. The position follows standard work methods and practices safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible. Cross-training in other departments to learn additional functions is required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Apply proper sanding system techniques, including sandpaper selection, key areas to sand, appropriate sanding procedures, and an efficient routine. Inspect personal work for defects such as pits, lines, glue spots, smoothness, and shine, making necessary improvements. Rework products as necessary to meet quality standards. Collaborate in a team environment to ensure production needs are met, including working overtime as required. Identify and report flawed or damaged components, ensuring proper color and stain matching. Safely operate tools such as hydraulic tables, orbital palm sanders, and air nozzles to ensure accurate sanding. Maintain and clean equipment and keep the workspace organized. Accurately track individual work using shop floor paperwork. Adhere to good documentation practices for quality records and controlled documents. Utilize Lean manufacturing principles as trained or directed. Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives, always prioritizing safety and ergonomic practices. Reads, understands, communicates, and interprets written and verbal instructions, work documentation, policies and practices, etc., which are written in the English language. Maintains a clean, safe working environment according to 5s and department safety guidelines. Regular and predictable attendance based on scheduled hours. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience One of the following is required: (1) High school diploma or its equivalent (GED for example), (2) work experience which demonstrates performance competency Skills and Abilities Ability to solve minor problems during the sanding process. Capacity to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations. Willingness to work overtime as required and maintain a safety-oriented mindset. Competent in basic math skills such as counting, adding, and subtracting. Ability to work cooperatively within the team as well as with members of other teams to meet goals. Demonstrated willingness to adapt to a continually changing environment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms for the duration of the shift. Ability to regularly lift and move up to 10 lbs, frequently lift and move up to 25 lbs, and occasionally lift and move up to 40 lbs.
