Overview Responsible for developing superior tooling, gauges and fixtures to ensure both the safety of the user and the delivery of a high-quality product at cost.
Key Responsibilities Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Work with supervisor and lead in selecting the correct tooling items for manufacturing machine tools and components.
- May act as a lead by coordinating the work of others and training other tool and die professionals.
- Build and repair custom machine shop tools and fixtures using machining equipment and precise measuring instruments.
- Plan and perform work from blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions to modify and/or build prototypes, tools, dies, jigs and fixtures.
- Construct, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain operating condition of tools, dies, jigs and fixtures by repairing dies, molds and tools when needed as well as disassembling molds, jigs, tools and fixtures, repairing and then reassembling when repaired.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances required to setup machines and tooling and work to achieve print tolerance in fit and assembly of tooling components.
- Work closely with the maintenance to repair/make components for equipment and assist maintenance in verifying alignment and level of equipment.
- Operate lathes, grinders, mills, and boring machines.
Experience - Ten (10) to twenty (20) years of tool and die making experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Working knowledge of common metal and alloy properties.
