Marine Spill Response Corporation (MSRC), a not-for-profit USCG classified OSRO, is seeking a Mate to join our Crew in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
With a legacy spanning over 30 years, MSRC stands at the forefront of the oil spill response industry. We are currently seeking a Mate to fill our vessel's role of second-in-command. As such will be responsible for deck operations, equipment maintenance, and safety measures according to regulatory and company regulations. The Mate will work as part of a close knit team, as well as independently, to accomplish a range of maritime functions as they support MSRC's mission.

Requirements:
* Candidates will need to live local to the Lake Charles, LA. area and be able to report back to the vessel within 2 hours to comply with MSRC's emergency response mission
* Valid USCG license of Mate 500 GRT or higher Near Coastal, Oceans preferred with Radar Observer endorsement including ARPA and ECDIS
* Valid STCW endorsements required: II/1 OICNW, II/4 RFPNW, II/5 Able Seafarer-Deck, IV/2 GMDSS, VI/1 BST, VI/II PSC and VI/3 Advanced Fire Fighting, VI/4 Med First Aid
* Valid USCG STCW medical certificate
* Valid TWIC
* Experience with oil recovery equipment - preferred
* Effective leadership skills, written and oral communications
* Employment is contingent upon completion of successful background check, pre-hire medical exam, drug screening, valid driver's license and U.S. Passport
Responsibilities:
* Provide leadership and motivation to deck crew while promoting an atmosphere of continuous improvement
* Officer of the Deck duties, Plan and supervise maintenance, update navigational charts and ECDIS
* Assist Master in verifying accurate maintenance logs and documents
* Conduct frequent inspections of vessel and equipment
* Ensure that the vessel is loaded in compliance with the vessel's stability plan at Master's direction taking into account ballast and fuel conditions
* Participate in Emergency Drills and respond to emergency situations
* Train crew members to ensure competence and capability
* Help to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory bodies, as well as MSRC policies and procedures.
* Supervise vessel mooring/unmooring and response readiness procedures
* Medical Officer under the Master's direction
Physical Requirements Include, Among Others:
* Requires standing, lifting up to 45lbs
* Requires the ability to wear the personnel protective equipment prescribed by posted signs and written instruction
* Able to work in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain or dry environments
* Ability to perform work in various sea conditions, under all environmental conditions, often wet/oily decks
