We are seeking an experienced Material Handler/Crane Operator for our sister company, Bayou Processing & Storage in east Houston. The Material Handler/Crane Operator reports to the Production Supervisor and loads/unloads trucks, stocks/restocks plate steel utilizing a bridge crane and/or forklift. Responsibilities:

  • Follows all company policy procedures and watches for potential risks in the area and notifies management of deficiencies identified
  • Attends all training and safety meetings as directed
  • Performs daily housekeeping and material organization in assigned areas
  • Uses bridge cranes that have a 3-5-ton capacity to complete tasks
  • Uses a propane sit-down forklift that has a 6000-pound capacity to complete tasks
  • Performs daily inspection of forklift and crane, pendulum control unit, wire ropes, and other accessory equipment
  • Performs the unloading/loading of trucks, stocking, and transferring of material with the use of a dual hoist bridge crane and/or standard forklift
  • Reports all deficiencies found and unusual noises and/or difficulties in the operation of the equipment
  • Assists with stock checks and physical counts as directed
  • Assists in training co-workers as requested
  • Performs other tasks when needed or directed
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of related experience
  • Knowledge of crane capacities, accessory equipment, rigging, and ability to move large-sized and/or unusually shaped steel plates in a safe manner
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to calculate the weight of the material and read measuring tools such as a tape measure
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to traverse the distribution warehouse and access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units by stretching, squatting, and reaching.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the warehouse.
