Job Summary: The Material Handling 1 position involves managing freight and materials in a distribution/warehouse environment. You will operate various equipment, including forklifts, powered industrial trucks, and scanners, while ensuring compliance with shipping regulations and safety protocols. This role requires attention to detail, quick adaptation to changing priorities, and the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced setting.Key Responsibilities:

• Load and unload freight as necessary.
• Put products away using scanner or computer systems.
• Operate narrow aisle, wire-guided machines, and powered industrial trucks to select and put away materials.
• Operate forklifts to produce required documentation for workloads.
• Locate, move, deliver, or return materials to proper areas within the facility.
• Prepare materials for shipment, ensuring all necessary labels and markings are applied.
• Document material movements and ensure accurate inventory tracking.
• Audit inventory locations to maintain accuracy and follow procedures for full location audits.
• Verify chemicals, catalog numbers, lot numbers, and special requests against order documentation.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations during packing and shipping processes.
• Maintain warehouse areas by condensing, straightening, and ensuring proper organization.
• Collaborate with team leads and supervisors to troubleshoot system issues.
• Assist in training new employees and report unsafe or hazardous conditions to management.
• Process orders and shipments, ensuring adherence to good distribution practices (GDP) and other applicable regulations.
• Communicate with procurement and customer interface departments on discrepancies or shipping issues.
• Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma, GED, or HSED.

At least one year of relevant work experience (shipping regulations or hazardous materials experience is a plus).

Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with all levels of staff.

Proficiency in operating PCs, scanners, printers, and shipping equipment.

Attention to detail and the ability to adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work effectively in a group setting and independently.

Basic understanding of shipping regulations and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with hazardous materials handling.

Knowledge of shipping regulations and compliance standards.

Certifications (if any):

Forklift certification or willingness to obtain.

Hazardous materials handling certification (preferred).
