Looking for a lifetime career Apply today!Job DescriptionSecondary Plant Advanced Materials (SPAM) is seeking a Materials / Advanced Manufacturing Engineer that has interest in developing, testing, and analyzing advanced materials to support the existing and future Naval Nuclear Fleet. As part of the SPAM team, you will support the design and execution of materials development programs, conduct materials testing and work to develop novel and innovative manufacturing methods to implement metallic materials that operate in unique high-temperature, high-pressure, and chemically aggressive environments. This position will have an emphasis on the development, utilization, and implementation of advanced manufactured materials, i.e. additively manufactured materials including Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF), Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM), Direct Energy Deposition (DED) and Powder Metallurgy-Hot Isostatic Pressing (PM-HIP). The design space in which SPAM and NNL engineers operate is innovative in nature and the candidate will be expected to seek to push the state of the art in both materials and manufacturing. You will be expected to work with technicians to successfully execute complex testing, perform non-destructive and destructive evaluations of test specimens, and prepare written technical reports. Expertise in material performance/characterizations may also be utilized to provide technical support for emergent fleet and manufacturing issues on an as-needed basis.Required Combination of Knowledge and SkillBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or PhD degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field; or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE.Preferred Skills- BS Degree or higher in Materials Science and Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Degree with a materials emphasis. - Knowledge of advanced manufacturing techniques including Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF), Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) Direct Energy Deposition (DED), Powder Metallurgy-Hot Isostatic Pressing (PM-HIP). - Working knowledge and/or experience with standard materials testing and evaluation techniques, including, but not limited to, (1) Mechanical Testing, (2) Microstructural Analysis, (3) Optical/electron spectroscopy, and (4) Non destructive and destructive analysis techniques. - Knowledge of fracture mechanics and fatigue analysis. - Knowledge of general welding processes. - Demonstrated ability to diagnose root causes of failure/experience with corrosion failure analysis. - Understanding or familiarity with materials corrosion.Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range$83,600.00 - $130,700.00 annually Salary information provided is a general guide line only.
