Summary This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), Office of Observations (OBS), Surface and Upper Air Division (SUAD), National Logistics Support Center (NLSC) with two vacancies in Grandview, MO. Responsibilities As a Materials Handler, you will perform the following duties: Perform clean-up of assigned warehouse areas and other warehouse tasks pertaining to the day-to-day operation of National Logistics Support Center (NLSC) organization. Check stock number and description on packing list for correctness. Receive, unload, and process incoming shipments. Operate hand trucks, forklifts, mechanized stock picking equipment, foam pack machines, automatic staplers and tape dispensing machine in the performance of day-to-day duties. Determine the proper equipment for the assigned project in regards to lift capacity, load requirements, height constraints, packing requirements and other issues related to working in a warehouse. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license. Incumbent must complete a physical examination. Ability to drive forklifts, carts and other motorized vehicles to move supplies and equipment around the station. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Perform repetitive, tiring work for long periods of time. Frequent standing, bending, stooping, reaching and arm movement is required. Many times works in cramped or awkward positions. The work requires continuous lifting, carrying and using tools and materials that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally may lift heavier items. Good hand, foot and eye coordination is required to operate forklift truck controls and other warehouse stock picking or power equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is normally performed in warehouse environment which may be drafty, damp, or overheated. Sometimes work is performed outside in fair weather and occasionally in bad weather. Subject to possible cuts and abrasions from sharp objects. Will be required to wear safety shoes and may be required to wear protective eyeglasses, gloves, or ear devices. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire as the Ability To Do the Work of the Position without More than Normal Supervision. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements. Federal Wage System (FWS) positions require the use of a Screen-Out Element (SOE). Points awarded for this element will range from 0 to 4, with 4 being the highest. Points will be based on experience and training which are documented by your responses to the questionnaire. All applicants must receive a score of 2.0 or above on the SOE and an average of 2.0 on all the job elements in order to be considered minimally qualified for the position(s) to be filled.
