We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Materials Manager to join our team in Birmingham, Alabama. The Materials Manager will be responsible for overseeing the acquisition, handling, storage, and distribution of materials within our manufacturing facility. This key role ensures the efficient flow of materials to meet production schedules while maintaining cost-effectiveness, safety, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the procurement, inventory, and distribution of raw materials, components, and finished goods.
- Develop and implement material handling strategies to optimize storage, minimize waste, and improve production efficiency.
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of the material handling department, including scheduling, staffing, and performance management.
- Coordinate with production, purchasing, and logistics teams to ensure materials are available for production schedules.
- Ensure accurate inventory levels through regular cycle counts, audits, and reconciliation.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to streamline material flow and reduce lead times.
- Monitor and enforce safety standards in the material handling areas to ensure a safe work environment.
- Maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors to negotiate pricing and ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Oversee the implementation and use of materials management software for tracking inventory and production orders.
- Prepare and present regular reports on inventory levels, material costs, and material handling performance.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in material handling within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of material management processes, inventory control, and logistics.
- Proven experience in managing teams and leading cross-functional projects.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data related to inventory, cost control, and supply chain performance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices within a manufacturing setting.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
