Sterling Search Partner is helping a Birmingham client with its search for a Materials Manager. A Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the flow of materials and supplies within a company. This role involves coordinating procurement, storage, inventory management, and distribution to ensure efficient operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Material Procurement: Oversee and manage the sourcing of materials, ensuring that suppliers meet quality standards, delivery schedules, and cost targets.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain optimal inventory levels, track material usage, and prevent stockouts or overstock situations.
  • Warehouse Management: Oversee the storage and organization of materials, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective storage solutions.
  • Supplier Relations: Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and resolve any issues related to materials.
  • Forecasting & Planning: Work with other departments (e.g., production, planning) to forecast material needs based on production schedules and sales projections.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that materials meet quality standards and comply with industry regulations.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise a team of inventory clerks, warehouse workers, or procurement staff, ensuring high levels of performance, training, and safety.
  • Cost Control: Monitor and control material costs and work within the company's budget constraints. Look for cost-saving opportunities.
  • ERP/Inventory Systems: Utilize material management software and ERP systems to track material usage, order status, and inventory levels.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports on inventory levels, procurement activities, and material costs for upper management.
  • Skills and Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
    • Proven experience in materials management or supply chain roles.
    • Strong knowledge of inventory management software (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
