Position: Mathematics Intervention Specialist Department or Unit: High School Reports To: Principal Supervises: None Salary: Commensurate with the Selma City Schools' Salary Matrix Hours: Monday-Friday 7:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Job Summary: During the regular school day, the Mathematics Intervention Specialist will establish coaching cycles with math and science teachers in order to assist them in integrating scientifically-based math strategies into their content-area instruction. The Mathematics Intervention Specialist will plan and facilitate professional development activities related to strategic teaching and other mathematical strategies during content area meetings, weekly Professional Learning Community sessions, and at other designated times established collaboratively with the administration. Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three years of successful classroom instruction.
  • Successful instructional coaching experience preferred.
  • Bachelors of Arts or Bachelors of Science required, Masters Degree preferred.
  • Strong professional collaborative skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of and experience in the implementation of scientifically-based math research and strategies.
Typical Duties: 1 . Works collaboratively with the administration to develop, implement, and coordinate a comprehensive high school math program and to implement the goals identified in the high school's Continuous Improvement Plan.
  • Serves as an instructional coach by guiding, directing, modeling, supervising, and following up with teachers as they implement scientifically-based math practices into their content area instruction.
  • Assists teachers in planning strategic lessons which incorporate math across content areas.
  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of the Alabama Math Course of Study.
  • Plans, coordinates and facilitates on-going professional development in effective math instruction for the purpose of providing support to content area teachers at the high school.
  • Disseminates materials and information on current research related to math.
  • Keeps abreast of current best practice and theories related to math by participating in professional article and journal reading, joining study groups, and by participating in professional development activities.
  • 8. Provides instruction to small groups of identified students for the purpose of improving their success in math and assessing mathematical concepts and proficiencies through a defined course of study.
  • Determines interventions for those students diagnosed as at risk.
  • Provides assistance in selecting and administering assessments and screening instruments in order to diagnose and prescribe effective math interventions, strategies and programs which increase the mathematical skills of students.
  • 11 . Consults with professional staff in diagnosis of mathematical strengths and weaknesses of students.
  • Uses data from standardized assessments, classroom grades, and curriculum-based measures to identify at risk students.
  • Works collaboratively with the school's administrator to develop and coordinate a schedule to accommodate targeted students.
  • Works collaboratively with teachers to coordinate and facilitate a math intervention program.
  • Maintains data on individual student progress and compiles school-wide reports as needed.
