Position Type: Support Staff/Bus Shop Auto MechanicDate Posted: 7/22/2024Location: HCS Transportation DepartmentDate Available: September 2024Closing Date: Until FilledTitle: Auto Mechanic I Reports To: Shop Supervisor/Assistant Shop Supervisor Location: Bus Shop Position: Classified Contract Days: 261 Retirement: PSERS FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay Scale: Support Staff A (A9) Minimum Requirements: Education: High School Diploma or GED. Experience: Two years of full-time, paid employment in motor vehicle maintenance and repair, gas and diesel experience required. Certifications are not required but are considered as valuable knowledge. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of motor vehicle maintenance and repair. Considerable skill in diagnosis and repair of equipment malfunctions; and in care of tools commonly employed in motor vehicle maintenance and repair. Considerable ability to tune-up, lubricates, and performs necessary repairs to internal combustion engine; to estimate supply requirements; and to keep records. Must be proficient with various parts of vehicles and able to disassemble and reassemble as necessary to repair or diagnose problems. Must have knowledge and abilities to maintain large tires, wheels, various brake types on all vehicles within the fleet. Primary Function: To repair as necessary all school buses, maintenance vehicles, and transportation vehicles, and keep them in good running condition. Performance Responsibilities:
  • Performs periodic inspection and routine servicing of automotive equipment.
  • Makes necessary repairs as directed by Lead Mechanic, Shop Supervisor, or Assistant Shop Supervisor.
  • Provides road service to inoperative vehicles.
  • Keeps records of work done.
  • Keeps work area clean and tools in proper place.
  • Drives bus in case of emergency.
  • Performs other tasks as directed by appropriate supervisors.
  • Must attend required annual training to maintain commercial drivers license in accordance with Georgia Department of Education
  • Must attend annual mechanics training as provided by the Georgia Department of Education and/or Georgia Association for Pupil Transportation,
Evaluation Instrument:
  • Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the HCSS Board of Control's policy on Personnel Evaluations.
