Job TitleMechanic IIILocationHarlingen - Harlingen, TX 78550 US (Primary)# of Hires Needed2Job TypeFull-timeJob DescriptionThe Motor Vehicle Mechanic III performs a full range of general, technical, diagnostic and analytical maintenance, repair and service activities as a certified Master Technician on Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV) buses, vans, automobiles and equipment, in accordance with vehicle and equipment manufacturers technical instructions and generally accepted industry practices. The Motor Vehicle Mechanic III works autonomously using independent judgment with limited supervision. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Must be proficient in all duties and responsibilities of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic I and II as well as:Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Trend Analysis: analyze the use of parts, frequency of replacement, and component failure
- Scheduling Maintenance: preventative and routine maintenance, responding to break-downs and coordinating off-site emergency repairs
- Reporting: as requested of the Facility Maintenance Manager
May assist in training lower-level workers in mechanical repair techniques. Performs other work as assigned.Job RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A combination of experience and/or certifications will be considered to have met the minimum qualifications.
- Current ASE A Series Master Certification
- Current ASE T Series Master Certification
- Current ASE H Series Master Certification
- Detroit Diesel Engine Certification
- Allison Transmission Certification
- Current B CDL holder with air brake and passenger endorsements.
- Qualified to perform annual inspections on CMV's.
- Qualified to perform brake inspections on CMV's*.
- EPA MVAC 609 Certification
- Ability to enter and verify repair information in fleet maintenance management software.
*Training that led to attainment of a State or Canadian Province qualifying certificate to perform assigned brake service or inspection tasks, including passage of CDL air brake test in the case of a brake inspection; or Competition of a State or federal training program, or earning a State qualifying certificate in commercial motor vehicle safety inspections. Or a combination of other training or experience totaling at least a year.Education and/or Experience:
- Completion of high school, or GED preferred.
- Fifteen years (15) of experience assisting skilled trades people in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, buses, vans and automobiles.
- Understand and be able to perform the brake service and inspection;
- Know the methods, procedures, tools and equipment needed; and
- Be qualified to perform brake service or inspection by training and/or experience.
Qualifying brake training or experience includes successful completion of:
- Education and Technical Assistance Program
- A State, Canadian Province, Federal agency, or union training program;
- A State-approved training program;
Must have own toolsLanguage Skills:
- Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
- Ability to communicate with other mechanics about repair work needed.
- Physical Requirements:
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50lbs.
- Climb, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, kneel and reach with hands and arms and work in limited spaces.
- Move wrists, hands and/or fingers frequently and regularly.
- Stand for extended periods.
- Work in a shop environment with moderate noise levels.
- Adapt to temperature changes (including extreme heat).
