GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of the class is to operate and repair complex mining machinery and/or equipment that require extended training and experience. Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on all quarry equipment and tools, repair defects and report corrective action to the management staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

1. Operate mining equipment to include the crushing plant and rolling stock.

2. Inspect equipment to ensure safe, proper working conditions, repair and report corrected defects and routine maintenance performed to supervisor.

3. Perform routine maintenance, repairs and cleaning of crushing plant and other equipment.

4. Use welding and cutting torches as needed for fabrication.

5. Review and suggest modifications to work methods to increase efficiency.

6. Perform all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations and standards of quality and safety.

7. Assist co-workers with various duties as required.

8. Assist in coordinating maintenance duties with management.

9. Use hand and power tools in various manual tasks as needed.

10. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of assigned tools and equipment.

11. Respond to after hour emergencies as required.

Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate heavy equipment;
  • Knowledge and experience with maintenance of heavy equipment;
  • Knowledge of the organization's operations, services and policies;
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing;
  • Good welding and use of cutting torch skills;
  • Good motor skills;

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • The educational requirement for this position is: Completion of high school/GED.
  • Education may not be substituted for experience.
  • Related-experience required: 4 years
  • Experience may not be substituted for education.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

Certifications, licenses, professional designations, or other qualifications required for this position include:

  • MSHA Miner Training, Valid State Driver's License

Certifications, licenses, professional designations, or other qualifications preferred for this position include:

  • CDL with HAZMAT and Tanker certification to operate quarry fuel truck.

This position requires lifting:

Up to 10 pounds: over 2/3 of the time; up to 25 pounds: over 2/3 of the time; up to 50 pounds: up to 2/3 of the time; up to 100 pounds: under 1/3 of the time; and, more than 100 pounds: under 1/3 of the time.

Vision Requirements:

This position has the following special vision requirements:

  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
  • Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more)
  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point)
  • Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)
  • Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)
