Summary The incumbent serves as a Medical Administrative Specialist- Health Administrative Specialist on Duty (HOD) located in the Business Office (BO); This is a full time position at 40 hours per week working days/nights/weekends/holidays. Responsibilities Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Provides medical administrative coverage for all Facility administrative duties during absences and irregular hours (Non-Policy Making). Assist with processing admissions. Assists with processing discharges. Assists with enrollment & eligibility for external customers about VA Health Benefits. Provides travel processing support for internal and external customers. Supports health information management systems with information and processing, presentation, and reporting. Maintains and pulls regular reports on multiple digital systems upon request. Coordinates communication between departments and leadership for any emergency situations. Interprets and instructs on established VA, Federal, and Local Policy, Procedures, and SOPs. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS 07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Formulates, presents, executes, and analyzes organizational budgets. Plans, develops and conducts internal review studies in deficient areas including records management, and privacy issues. Utilization Review and Health Information activities, privacy, records management and the new scanning program. Interviewing and counseling Veterans concerning the law and regulatory guidelines on their enrollment and eligibility for health care benefits. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. The degree must be in a field that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the Medical Administration Specialist position. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond one year of graduate education.
