Job Title: Medical Assistant - ContractLocation: New York, NY (Postal Code: 10007)Duties:
Performs patient care tasks, including venipuncture, EKGs, managing patient flow, and assisting patients with transfers and dressing. Prepares exam rooms, assists physicians with procedures, takes vital signs, and relays instructions to patients and families. Provides relevant information to patients via phone and assists with specimen collection and point-of-care testing.Level of Physical Activity Required: Heavy (e.g., frequent and sustained lifting, carrying).Work Environment: General office environment with potential for heavy lifting and strenuous physical activity.Handles clerical tasks, such as sending and receiving patient medical records, managing charts, obtaining lab reports, and hospital notes, and completing requisitions. These tasks may be done manually or using an electronic medical record (EMR) system.Enters orders into the EMR system or prepares prescription refill requests for physician review and approval.Manages inventory, orders, and restocks medical supplies as needed.Prepares examination rooms and instruments following proper sterilization techniques, hospital policies, and infection control guidelines.Maintains various logs (e.g., medication refrigeration, sterilization processes, crash cart, point-of-care testing).Ensures medications and medical supplies are disposed of properly following expiration dates and institutional policies.Follows safety and legal regulations to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.Adheres to personal protective equipment requirements to protect against exposure to hazardous substances and infection risks.Assists with filing and maintaining medical charts, including operative reports and test results.May assist with scheduling surgeries or procedures, preparing necessary pre-admissions paperwork, and coordinating with patients and surgical coordinators.Performs proficient phlebotomy duties as needed.Schedules and registers patient appointments, updating demographic and insurance information.Adjusts and confirms patient office schedules.Verifies and updates insurance information using internal systems or web sources.Handles pre-certification for procedures as necessary.Performs other duties as assigned.Skills:
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with multicultural patients.
- Excellent telephone etiquette.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
- Familiarity with EMR or billing systems preferred but not required.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
- Medical Assistant certificate required.
- BCLS certification required (AHA).
