Job Description :

A Certified Medical Assistant greets and escorts patients to exam room for medical provider visit. Obtains and documents subjective and objective data accurately and concisely.

* Communicates information to provider about patient, any problems, needs or changes in patient status.

*

* Provides basic education and applicable handouts to patients appropriate to their age and identified learning considerations and needs; explains lab/diagnostic test to the patient including proper preparation.

*

* Administers medications or treatments as ordered by the provider including immunizations and injections. Utilizes proper procedure with special consideration for patient safety.

*

* Performs lab/diagnostic testing (i.e. urine dip, pregnancy test, strep screen, hemacue, EKG) as ordered by provider; reports all critical lab values to providers immediately; performs quality controls and maintains all laboratory/diagnostic test logs. Correctly packages, codes and labels all blood and body fluid specimens for processing by Lab. Maintains logs and required checks as assigned.

* Anticipates and prepares exam room with equipment and supplies required for the visit; assists the health care team with exams and procedures.

* Demonstrates an ability to remain calm, perform effectively and professionally during peak periods of activity and emergency situations.

* Assists other members of the team to include, but not limited to, answering incoming phone calls, updating information in the computer, scheduling appointments and procedures, preparing charts, and other office tasks required to keep the clinic operating smoothly.

* Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission of the Health Center

* Communicates clearly, concisely and accurately, creating a working climate that provides growth and job satisfaction of personnel.

* Other duties as assigned.

Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols.

The ability to perform phlebotomy and administer injections

Ability to perform routine invasive procedures, such as venipuncture and catheterization, in accordance with established clinical protocol.

High level of computer literacy a must.

Must be proficient in the use of medical and laboratory equipment

High School Diploma or equivalent

Successful completion of medical assistant education recognized by the AAMA.

Certification as a medical assistant.

Consistent demonstration of a team approach to care.

Ability to consistently meet the department work schedule as designated by supervisor.

Ability to work extended hours
