MAIN FUNCTION:Performs a variety of clinical support services. In collaboration with the Unit Director, and under the supervision of the Staff Registered Nurses, the Clinical Office Assistant plans and reviews equipment, supply needs, assist the nursing staff and Physician/APP with specific technical procedures and assists with patient care. Preparation of surgical instrument trays and assistance at patient care activities not requiring direct physician supervision.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Office/Clinical Functionsa. Answers telephone calls courteously and efficiently-routes all medically related calls to appropriate care provider for further action.b. Prepares daily schedule & distributes.c. Telephones patient with test results and follows-up with appropriate referral; telephone prescriptions to pharmacies.d. Sets up exam room daily by stocking rooms: linins, supplies, etc.e. Picks up and delivers regulated medical instruments and laboratory cultures following established protocol.f. Phones patient with any pertinent information - refers complex issues to nursing.g. Tracks outstanding results, and notifies RN/MD.Patient Care, Other Medical Services*
  • Check-in Functions* Prepares patients for examination/surgery and documents in Medical Record.* Performs blood pressures, Vital Signs, ABI's, etc.* Prepares surgical instruments; cleaning and sterilization, set-up of surgical trays; other associated instruments for debridement, procedures and treatments.* Assists physician/nursing staff during examinations and surgical procedures as necessary.* Check-out Functions:* Assists nursing staff with any discharge instructions.* Cleans room after visit completion per unit guideline/protocol.* Prepares orders/Cultures/labels for any testing.* Obtains any needed prior authorizations.* Provides patient with test instructions and education materials as appropriate.* Documents all follow up and appointments in medical record.* Under direct supervision of provider: Prescription renewals - medication reconciliation with each visit.4. Medical Documentation:* Transcribes notes (when applicable) and updates medical records.* Files/scans results according to protocol.* Processes all medical records requests according to protocol* Other* Assists Administrator, provider(s), nurse(s) and other staff with other practice related functions.* Maintains professional behavior and appearance in compliance with AOMC Service Excellence Standards of Behavior.* Functions with awareness for safety of patients, co-workers and self (i.e. OSHA compliance.* Is responsible for attending mandatory annual education programs and participates in the process as appropriate - completes annual Merit Fair.* Is familiar with and demonstrates Quality principles and participates in the process as appropriate.* Maintains flexibility working hours M-F between 8a-5:30p.* Provides personal and nursing care to meet the physical and emotional needs of patients in the outpatient Wound Clinic, under the direction of a licensed nurse.* Directs and monitors the patient care duties in a team environment.* Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to customer's needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Arnot Health.j. It is understood that this list is typical duties for the classification and is not to be considered inclusive of all duties which may be assigned.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Minimum: High school graduate with 1-2 years full time clinical experience in the provision of simple treatment and other care services under professional supervision OR degree in an Allied health field with clinical experience in the provision of simple treatment and other care services under professional supervision OR 1-2 years full time experience in the role of Medical Office Assistance with clinical experience in the provision of simple treatment and other care services under professional supervision. Experience with coding helpful.CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Light physical effort.EXPOSURE CATEGORY:Category I.
