Weekly Gross: $2,160.00 - $2,340.00
Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Med/Surg team on a contract basis at Mount Sinai Health System. The position requires a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience, a BSN degree, and the ability to float between various units within the nursing department. The role is primarily night shifts, with rotating weekends and holidays. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering safe, competent, and high-quality patient care while collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Provide nursing care based on theory, research, evidence-based practice, and organizational standards.
- Assess and evaluate patient care needs, apply critical thinking in care management, and collaborate with healthcare teams for care planning.
- Educate patients and caregivers about their care plan, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Perform duties aligned with Mount Sinai's Relationship Centered Care (MSHRCC), including Purposeful Hourly Rounding and MD/RN collaboration.
Patient Experience:
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families while considering cultural diversity and individual needs.
- Support evidence-based practices to improve patient perceptions and ensure service recovery when concerns arise.
- Conduct rounding to address patient needs and facilitate effective communication with all team members.
Quality and Safety:
- Maintain clinical skills necessary to provide quality patient care and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Participate in peer and institutional review processes, quality improvement initiatives, and nursing research activities.
- Escalate safety hazards and adhere to best practice protocols to maintain patient safety.
Operations:
- Perform charge nurse duties as needed, ensuring the appropriate use of supplies and resources.
- Maintain documentation in compliance with hospital standards, regulatory requirements, and legal requirements.
Professional Development:
- Support an environment of care for both clinical colleagues and patients.
- Continue to advance clinical nursing competence and contribute to life-long learning.
- Participate in nursing committees, shared decision-making, and unit initiatives.
Skills & Qualifications:
- NYS RN License
- BLS Certification (AHA)
- Minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience
- 1 year of travel experience
- Ability to float across various units
- Experience with EPIC (highly preferred)
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with relevant experience may be considered
Working Conditions:
- 3x12 hour shifts per week, Night Shift (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Every other weekend & holidays required
- Must be available for 4th shift per month
- Must float across multiple units as assigned
Unit Details:
- 34 beds in the unit
- Average unit census of 30 patients
- Staffing ratio of 1:5
