Job Description The Medication Technician oversees medication delivery in the facility and provides appropriate medication regimens for patient use in the home. The medication technician administers medication in center following orders by medical provider and under the direction of the clinical nurse. Communciation with pharmacy for medication needs and refills is required. The medication technician reviews medications and medication systems for management in the home setting. Responsibilities Administers or assists with self-administration or medication in accordance with accepted practices presented by the Virginia Board of Nursing Medication Aide Curriculum. Administers subcutaneous insulin injections as ordered by the health care provider. Assist in scanning medical documents into the electronic medical record Assist the pharmacist in verifying accuracy prior to distribution for home use. Assists participants with all activities of daily living. Carries out basic care procedures to include catheter temperature pulse respiration blood pressure height and weight specimen collection colostomy care oxygen maintenance and other special care. Counts, documents, and assures accuracy of scheduled drugs daily. Demonstrates the necessary knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age spiritual and cultural needs of the resident served. Observes medication effects and reports observations to the health care provider. Observes reports documents and communicates care and changes in condition to appropriate staff to include such areas as pain skin integrity vital signs or cognitive decline. Participates in and supports ongoing quality improvement activities. Qualifications Required Qualifications:

• Certified in the state of Virginia as a Registered Medication Aide
• Certified Nursing Assistant license in the state of Virginia
• Hold a current, active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) course completion card.

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least 1 year experience practicing as a medication technician in a long-term care or assisted living facility.
