Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator QUALIFICATIONS: Licensure or certification as a mental health professional (e.g., licensed psychologist, licensed clinical social worker, licensed professional counselor). Master's or doctoral degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field preferred. Broad knowledge of social and emotional development and the principles of individual and group sessions. Familiarity with mental health and wellness promotion strategies, stress management techniques, and self-care practices. Understanding of personal characteristics, culture, and family dynamics, which may impact a student's mental health functioning and wellbeing. Excellent interpersonal skills to establish rapport, show empathy, and create a safe environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong collaboration and consultation skills. REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services JOB GOALS: Student Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator will play a crucial role in promoting mental health, well-being, and overall wellness across the district, by providing support, guidance, and interventions to address various mental health concerns, enhance coping skills, executive functioning skills to foster a positive school environment. This may involve conducting informal assessments, delivering individual/group sessions, developing wellness programs, and collaborating with other professionals to enable students at all grade levels the opportunity to benefit from their educational program to the fullest.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Provide interventions to address and manage mental health issues.
- Develop personalized plans in collaboration with individuals, parents, school counselors and/or Child Study Team to achieve their mental health goals.
- Collaborate with building staff (including administration, school counselors, CST, nurse, faculty, staff, I&RS team) to ensure implementation and alignment of wellness programs, social peer counseling, and on site services.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify school needs and tailor programs accordingly.
- Coordinate a variety of support and empowerment groups for students at the different building levels.
- Design and implement wellness programs and events to promote mental health, resilience, and overall well-being, including but not limited to programs like Week of Respect, Suidice Prevention, Body Acceptance Week.
- Develop workshops, training sessions, and/or educational materials on topics related to health and wellness, stress management, self-care, emotional regulation, executive functioning and healthy lifestyle practices.
- Coordinate with outside providers and connect with appropriate resources within the community, including the Leonia Borough Public Health Educator.
- Research community partners to maintain on and off site services and referrals for students, families and staff.
- Conducts screenings and assessments to understand individuals' mental health concerns, including emotional, behavioral, and psychological factors.
- Develop and implement ongoing wellness outreach and communications to school staff, students, parents and community.
- Maintains professional competence and continuous improvement through inservice education and other professional growth activities.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the District Wellness Coordinator and as designated by the Superintendent.
