Mental Health Team Supervisor
Same Day Access (SDA) Team Leader
An Overview
The City of Alexandria is seeking a dynamic leader to provide programmatic oversight of all aspects related to our Same Day Access (SDA) entry point for behavioral health services. The incumbent provides leadership and supervision to the SDA team serving youth and adults. Provides overall leadership and development for combined youth and adult Same Day Access program in accordance with STEP VA core service number 1(Same Day Access) and including elements for core service numbers 2 (Primary Care Screening), core service number 6 (Service Members, Veterans, and their Families- SMVF), and 9 (Care Coordination). The SDA Team Leader is responsible for program development, ensuring fidelity to STEP VA and relevant evidence-based practices, as well as innovation and leadership to provide coordinated and optimal services to Alexandria residents within Department of Community and Human Services structure.
What You Should Bring
The ideal candidate will bring with them thorough knowledge of current social, psychiatric, economic and health challenges relevant to inform the practice of biopsychosocial assessments with youth/family, and adult populations. Knowledge of individual and group behavior and the current literature in the field of social work, psychology, substance use, or psychiatric nursing, including treatment and assessment methods used in cases involving psychiatric disorders, substance use disorders, and intellectual disabilities. Knowledge of mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities, corrections, vocational rehabilitation, and substance use disorders with ability to apply knowledge in a clinical assessment to inform a clinical formulation and client centered recommendation for services. Ability to supervise staff and develop a program which provides excellent customer service and clinical service and works collaboratively with stakeholders and other DCHS programs in the service of clients. Thorough knowledge and skills related to etiology and effective treatment modes for mental illness and co-occurring disorders. Ability to plan and implement programs to meet the needs of clients and stakeholders. Ability to motivate independent clinical professionals to function as a high performing unit. Ability to establish and implement policies and procedures to enhance treatment effectiveness and efficiency. Knowledge and skills with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, co-occurring treatment, stages of change, motivational interviewing, assessment of needs, strengths, risk and mental status, group, individual and family therapy, crisis intervention, case management and psychoeducation. Ability to work successfully with clients to identify and achieve treatment goals and to assist supervised clinical staff in doing so. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with professionals and the public; Ability to effectively utilize an electronic clinical record and data systems and to train and assist supervisees with same.

Example of Duties:
* Provides direct clinical and administrative leadership and supervision to a team of clinical and administrative staff.
* Provides clinical supervision and consultation to assist therapist supervisor, therapists, and case managers in assessing and managing clinical risk, problem solving, and guiding clients toward best clinical service recommendations.
* Establishes goals, objectives, and measures for all program components.
* Prepares program reports and evaluates program effectiveness.
* Designs and implements SDA and other program services based on Evidence-Based Best Practices; data collection from Credible (Electronic Health Record); feedback from clients, staff, and referral sources.
* Ensures that cases presenting with multiple, complex clinical issues have the appropriate risk assessments and case coordination (with internal and external resources) to ensure client and community safety.
* Monitors individual and team compliance with qualitative and quantitative standards that include State Reporting; quality of clinical work; clinical outcomes; client satisfaction; medical records and compliance with federal, State and insurance regulations; staff productivity; and stakeholder satisfaction.
* Provides clinical supervision in compliance with The Department, CARF, Medicaid and State licensing standards and accurately reflects assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, treatment progress and discharge.
* Ensures that treatment services maintain high clinical standards that are effective and client-centered.
* Develops, updates, and revises program policies and procedures and other programs as required.
* Monitors progress towards goals and provides reports to the assistant division director and the division director.
* Other duties as assigned.
Minimum & Additional Requirements
Three years of program management experience in a community mental health or similar setting, and three years of experience providing mental health and/or substance abuse services, including diagnostic evaluations, crisis intervention, and case management, and possession of an M.S.W., M.A., M.S. N. or a PH.D. degree from an accredited school, Virginia Licensure or immediate eligibility for Virginia licensure at the time of appointment as a LCSW, LPC, Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Clinical Psychologist, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree; At least three years of experience in the clinical supervision and administration of a clinical service program within a community mental health center. At least three years of experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, co-occurring treatment, stages of change, motivational interviewing, assessment of needs, strengths, risk and mental status, group, individual and family therapy, crisis intervention, case management, and psychoeducation.
