$19.82 - $31.71 Hourly$41,218 - $65,949 AnnuallyThis position is a Pay Band 60Posting DetailsThe New Mexico National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Academy (NMNGYCA) is a free, voluntary 17 ½ month alternative program for youth aged 16-18 that starts with a demanding 22-week quasi-military residential phase in which cadets from all over the state live in Roswell. This is followed by two (2) years of mentoring support to help graduates stay on track. The focus during the residential phase is on the development of the whole person through training of the eight (8) Core Components: Academic Excellence; Life Coping Skills; Job Skills; Responsible Citizenship; Leadership/Followership; Health and Hygiene; Physical Fitness; Service to Community, which are designed to instill healthy, life-long skills that have been time-proven to lead to success. In this phase, all cadets will live in military style barracks, engage in daily fitness activities, work towards earning a HiSET (High School Equivalency Credential) or credit recovery, and are eligible to receive college credits in a vocational training program provided by Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell. Once a cadet graduates from the residential phase, the post-residential phase begins. This phase features monthly contact with an assigned mentor who helps the cadet maintain positive lifestyles and remain focused on completing their life goals by providing community resources in support of employment and educational opportunities for up to two (2) years. Why does the job exist?The Mentor Coordinator ensures all criteria for the NMNGYCA Mentor Program are met and assists with the coordination of job/school placement for cadets in the ChalleNGe Program. The Mentor Coordinator will screen and interview individuals who are interested in mentoring New Mexico Youth Challenge Academy (NMYCA) cadets and will also coordinate and conduct community presentations providing information about the NMYCA Mentoring Program to civic groups and other organizations to establish a support system and identify resources for cadets after graduation. The position also plans alumni events throughout the state to create networking opportunities with cadets who are in the post-residential phase of the program. Additionally, the Mentor Coordinator certifies that all mentors remain in contact with their respective mentees throughout the post-residential phase, enters all contact information into the MentorPRO application and provides a monthly report to the NMNGYCA Placement Manager. The Mentor Coordinator manages cases from multiple class cycles synchronously (future, current and prior cadets) for up to two (2) years after graduation. How does it get done?The Mentor Coordinator will: -Ensure all mentor applications/information and background checks are conducted and entered into the NMYCA database prior to mentor training;-Ensure all mentor files are set up and maintained properly;-Orchestrate and conduct all training requirements for NMYCA Cadets and Mentors prior to established deadlines;-Ensure all cadets are matched with mentors as prescribed by NGB guidance;-Ensure residential contacts are being made between cadets and mentors by recording communications in the database as they happen;-Provide support to current mentors regarding communication and visits with cadets;-Coordinate and conduct presentations providing information about the NMYCA Mentoring Program to civic groups and other organizations in an effort to recruit mentors;-Recruit, meet and coordinate with employers, agencies, schools, and community members throughout the State of NM, to establish a support system and identify resources for Cadets in the Post Residential Phase and enter their contact information in MentorPRO Application (App);-Coordinate community events, throughout the State of NM, for Cadets who are in the Post Residential Phase of the Program;-Assist with monitoring conversations between Mentors and Cadets; and, -Make contact with Cadets during the Post-Residential phase monthly in year one, and quarterly during year two. Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate: Is bilingual; Enjoys working with youth;Has experience in event-planning; Is comfortable presenting to individuals and large groups;Is attentive to detail and ability to multi-task;Has excellent verbal communication and critical thinking skills; and, Is self-driven and able to work independently. Minimum QualificationAssociate degree in Social Services, Education, Government, Human Resources, or Business Administration and two (2) years of experience in customer service, administrative support, business administration, human resources, recruitment, placement, processing personnel transactions, and/or eligibility determination in a private or public sector and/or social welfare program. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
